The Best Day Ever

Halloween has always been my favorite day… As I was blessed to marry my best friend on the 29th of October last year, I now have a string of Best-Day-Evers. ❤

The happiest days of my Life…and then some.

Our custom Halloween wedding cake. ❤

THANKFUL

I don’t really do shoutouts or updates regarding my personal status – I feel like if you know me, you know what (and who) is important.  But sometimes it feels good to be as loud as you can be for the Universe, because the conversations we have internally very much reflect beyond ourselves. . .

As one year comes to a close, and another opens, I always make time for a little ritual – one in which I write down those things for which I am immensely thankful, for the things I wish to release and no longer serve me, and for all that I am hoping for.

When we envision the good as if it has already happened, miracles WILL unfold – I’ve seen it happen in my own Life in ways I cannot begin to verbally describe.  But magic?  Oh yes…and THEN some.

So even though I try to make it clear every day…I just wanted to say…

In more ways than language has words to express, I am thankful for his spirit and his heart, above all things.  Let that be known for eternity in this realm and the next. . .

Happy holidays to all, and blessed be.

L O V E, Captured

It’s fair to say that I’ve seen a lot of wedding photography in the last few months – I’ve poured through hundreds upon hundreds of images, looking for inspirational compositions, colors, poses…you name it (thank you, Pinterest, the visual tool of the modern era!)

But my husband and I don’t much care for contrived… We want to have fun, and have the freedom be ourselves in all that we do – for wedding photography, maintaining an environment in which we could avoid affectation, unnatural manipulations, and overdone postures was incredibly important.  You don’t want to be conscious of being photographed, for one thing, never mind feeling like posed plastic.

We had the good fortune to work with Christian Oth Studio and I have to say, not only were the two key players I came down to PHENOMENAL, but so too were the assistant photographers, videographers and coordinators they chose.  Doubtless everyone on board is well above par – the plethora of imagery was quite spectacular on the site, and I’m not sure I had much hesitation when choosing a vendor.

The blessing, though, was that each person on our crew was so incredibly well-suited – the laughter was contagious, and I found myself mindfully thankful – and loving – every minute of it.

While I have to wait the regular grace period of two months or so (Merry Christmas!) for the rest of the lot…I was sent three “teaser images.”  I nearly fell over, (joyful) tears in my eye, when I saw what were more than just photos…  I feel like they not only captured what was physically before them, but the true love and joy of the moment(s).

The stress of wedding planning is very real – it isn’t just the hundreds of files I’ve amassed (documents, spreadsheets, worksheets, contacts, images), nor the hundreds of e-mails.  The coordination, the attention to details (ALL of them), the scheduling… There is so much going on for only a few hours of celebration.  It sounds like planning would be fun, doesn’t it?!  Unfortunately, not much of it was… BUT…

When I saw – and felt – the joy from my family…and when I took one look at him (his energy I could feel across the room)…?  His smile nearly bowled me over.  Every ounce and minute spent desperately trying to design and arrange THE perfect event, cake, setting, flowers, music, photography, guest lists, timing…was worth a split second of his smile.

I have tears in my eyes as I write, feeling a sense of gratitude greater than what my heart can bear almost… To see the people you love at their most joyful and relaxed is a gift worth planning for a lifetime.

I’d not have changed a thing because…

Because it was perfect.

And Oth?  They captured the “perfect”…

And then some.

Have Your Cake And Eat It Too

I actually don’t eat cake…BUT…my habitually clean eating was more than delighted to take a minor respite for dessert on October 29th. I wouldn’t have missed my wedding cake for the world.

I can’t seem to get off cloud 9 (not that I’m aiming to – I think I’ll take up residence, actually), and no amount of sugar could have bounced me from it.

The day was every bit as vampy and Halloween as I always dreamed… ❤  And while part of me wants to keep my custom cake a secret…I have to share, knowing others (Tim Burton fans?  Gothic at heart?!) can appreciate its offbeat beauty, and unconventionality.

My custom, Halloween wedding cake! <3

My custom, Halloween wedding cake! ❤

We don’t do normal…though frankly I don’t think a soul present expected anything but unabashed badassery (while I’m not quite on par, my husband is definitely UBER cool, and “badass” in my book is worthy of aspiration! 😉 )

The inside was red and purple velvet…and perfectly “to die for.”  Even for my non-sugar-coated heart.

❤

Happy As A Witch…

Not 100% of the time. . .but happy suits me best so I definitely try.  (The converse would be bad for EVERyone!)

My wedding is two days before Halloween, so this definitely does apply currently… 🙂

Halloween In The Land Of Etsy

Aaaannnd more stores with Halloween fronts… *grinning ear to ear*

In this case, incredibly innovative Halloween jazz!  Etsy is one of my favorite online shops – I even bought things for my October wedding on here.  The brilliant minds, ever creating curiosities and fun – it’s never ending.  For this holiday in particular, you are guaranteed to find some specialty, unique stuff – costumes, accessories, decor…whatever!

Early Hallowedding

My Aunt and Uncle definitely know me well.  In honor of my upcoming wedding – on the closest day to Hallows as I could manage – they sent early, season-(and event)-appropriate fun.  There isn’t a single other holiday I look forward to as much, and if I had my way, it would be every day.

Yay for Autumnal revelry!

Jack O’Lanterns and sugar skulls should be available at all times of the year, so says moi. (I suppose they ARE nowadays, via Etsy, eBay, and other online shops.  Hallelujah chorus for Samhain?  Yes, there should be one.  Just regarding the former point alone!)

Staying On Track When Away From Home

Actually…in this case, I was traveling BACK home…from my new home…for ten days to attend to wedding preparations – I therefore knew about a gym location in advance BUT…had I not, I’d have scouted one out for sure.

Fitness isn’t a once in a while thing – it’s a lifestyle.  Staying fit is a commitment to making good daily choices – keeping in mind, of course, that life is fast-paced, and sometimes unexpected.

But when we are traveling, or need to be out of our regular routine, there are ways to keep up with some activities.  Your body – and mind! – will thank you for going the extra mile and making sure your hotel has a fitness facility, or that there is a gym, bike trail etc nearby.

With all of the crazy things i had scheduled, fitting in my cardio and lifting wasn’t going to be easy – but I made it work.  I got up earlier than I might have otherwise, put on my spin shoes, and headed out the door. *Making the time* is a huge part of it – that’s where your commitment comes in.  Your goals are achievable so long as you seize opportunity.

I made sure that I specifically put in the mornings that I wanted to go to the gym ON my schedule, in advance – it mattered to me enough (knowing I would physically and mentally not feel myself if I skipped it!) to get there, and having it penciled in already meant there were no excuses.

Being away from home meant I was missing eight Martial Art classes a week, and regular other exercise – without making the time, I’d have fallen into a slump for well over a week, which – for me – equals a terrible mood, and a tired body.  Don’t forget that exercise boosts your energy, and happy chemicals – endorphins to the rescue! Just because you aren’t home doesn’t mean  you can’t keep up with SOMEthing.  It’s worth looking into your options ahead of time so you don’t fall into a cycle of doing zero.

Make Up Forever Artist Shadow Eyeshadow and Powder Blush

Can I just say…holy versatility?!

Make Up Forever’s Artist Shadow and Powder Blush is a dream for anyone who either dolls up every day…OR performs or has a major event (think wedding, gala, etc.)

I have a wedding (my own!) coming up soon – unfortunately (or fortunately, so says my wallet!) I already have a ton of stuff to work with.  Had I not, I’d likely have gone straight to this enormous selection to find the shades I want to mix.  Had I seen this back in my Ballroom Dancing days, I’d likely own half by now.  Okay, maybe just a fourth.

The formulas come in

  • Matte
  • Metallic
  • Satin
  • Shimmer

And there are more shades that I have EVER seen for any other product.  Truly, a plethora. No matter what your mood, what the season, or what the occasion, your pretty much promised something from this array.  And nevermind if the shade says “eyeshadow” or “blush” specifically – you can basically use it however you want.
