Martial Artists Hand Balm?!

Duke Cannon Supply Co Bloody Knuckles Hand Repair Balm is probably the first hand repair balm I’ve ever seen developed for Martial Artists (or fighters, hands-on hard workers, and “world champions” at least.)

ulta.com

We often joke about the white marks we leave on heavy bags…because basically that “white” is our skin!  While we aren’t making ourselves bleed (it happens from time to time, but this isn’t Blood Sport!) our hands do get very dry…as do our feet.

In Martial Arts, we are often in close quarters – for me that means we all need to be even more conscientious. Hygiene *should* (let’s hope) be a top priority anyway, but at the Dojo, it is especially so.  Lanolin is one of those ingredients known to be ultra moisturizing, even in the tough cases – I wouldn’t use all forms of it on my face, necessarily, but for hands, elbows and feet, it’s brilliant.

Per Ulta (including the jab at Bag Balm):

Details:

Dry, cracked hands are like living testaments to a man’s hard work and ingenuity. And while hard-working hands are to be celebrated, let’s be honest; dry, cracked hands feel awful. That’s why Duke Cannon introduced Bloody Knuckles Hand Repair Balm. Made with lanolin, it provides much-needed moisture without leaving the hands feeling sticky or greasy (like that stuff in the green jar.)

At 5 oz., this is a hearty serving that will last a good long time. Formulated to repair the hands of workers, fighter, and world champions.

Ingredients aren’t too lengthy, and have several super hydrating substances:

Ingredients:

Water, Glycerin, Stearic Acid, Shea Butter, Emulsifying Wax, Caprylic/Capric Trigliceride, Cetyl Alcohol, Dimethicone, Tribehenin, Allantoin, Jojoba Seed Oil, Tocopherol, Lanolin, Carbomer, Ethylhexylglycerin, Phenoxyethanol, Sodium Hydroxide.
I haven’t seen this in store, and do make a habit to carry around a heavy-hitting hand cream with urea in my bag, but I may snag some should I come across it – lord knows it will come in handy (no pun intended!)

Korean Skincare At Target – January 2017

I always get excited when I hear US retailers are expanding their overseas brands – especially stores like Target, which tend to be EVERYwhere (and therefore more easily accessible.)

I’ve been droning on about the benefits of Asian skincare for – literally – decades.  I wrote a thesis surrounding the topic back in 1999, to “date” myself.  It wasn’t until the last two years or so that I’ve really seen it take off…but I can assure you, I’m THRILLED, as it makes tracking such products down a LOT easier.

You can certainly find your share at Ulta (for another major retailer) and I’ve seen Asian concepts rolling out from US and European brands at mass market retailers, such as CVS and Walgreens – so the types of products (think sheet masks, cushions, essence waters etc) have become more available to the masses in general.  But to have actual Asian brands carried in the US is an awesome affair.

Musingsofamuse posted here to mention a few of the items hitting shelves later this month.  Mizon is an incredibly well-featured brand (for good reason too – the products live up to the hype!) so I’m pretty psyched to see it among the ranks.  She’s provided the following list (which you can see by clicking her link in the text above as well) along with mention of Peach & Lily founder Alicia Yoon, responsible for this roll-out:

  • Aprilskin Deep Cleaning Facial Cleanser $7
  • Ariul Sheet Mask Skin Texture Improvement Facial Mask Treatment $20
  • Caolion Cream Deep Cleaning Facial Mask Treatment $26
  • Caolion Cream Pore Minimizing Facial Mask Treatment $20
  • Caolion Cream Skin Texture Improvement Facial Mask Treatment $23
  • Caolion Stick Moisturizing Facial Moisturizer $16
  • Lagom Gel Basic Cleansing Facial Cleanser $17
  • Lagom Spray Skin Texture Improvement Facial Tone $21
  • Mizon Snail Repair Eye $22
  • Mizon Snail Repair Cream $38
  • Mizon Face Masks $3.50 Each
  • Twenty Four Seven Cosmetic Highlighter White $22
  • Twenty Four Seven Lipstick Medium $29

I look forward to seeing these in-store in the next few weeks.  Definitely refreshing…and incredibly good for your beau.  And that’s the thing, really…the sooner in life you start, the better off you are.  In skincare – as with many things – preventative and proactive care is the BEST kind.

FY-EYE

New jazz from Maybelline that wasn’t supposed to be out quite yet…but that IS.  Ballroom dancers rejoice – less need to wear the falsies (which I couldn’t STAND!)

The Falsies Push Up Angel Mascara promises to sweep your flutter to the side, giving a lifted, winged effect – how pinup and fabulous!

Maybelline’s Brow Precise Fiber Volumizer is hopping on the heels of the brow building trend, not only adding color, but filling out sparse areas with its fiber-infused gel formula.

NYX Pro Foundation Mixer

Makeup artistry has officially gone mainstream!  At least as far as pro tricks, tools, and products go…  Not only have corrective concealers and palettes become “must-have” items, but now pro mixers, a product rarely seen in the conventional marketplace (whether mass market OR high-end) have been added to the mix!

The fact that these Pro Foundation Mixers can be found at Ulta?  That’s kind of mind-blowing.  Shouldn’t be a huge shock, given the way trends are going, but it’s still impressive.  Part of the reason might be that such formulations often need explanation (think: color wheels!)  Perhaps the influx of corrective products has brought with it a enough of a wave of how-to’s and instructional that consumers are warmed up enough to the idea?  Learning how to use them is definitely important, since they aren’t meant to go on straight from the tube.

Back in the day, you had to track down speciality brands such as Ben Nye and Mehron to get anything like these… *Possibly* MAC Pro…but without an official industry id, you had to do your searching on eBay, or try to get hooked up by a makeup artist friend who could log into their site! So the fact that you can get your paws on them at a local mass retailer is pretty darn cool.

What’s the point of mixers?  Foundations don’t always come in enough shades to match your specific skintone – pair the formulation with one or more mixers, and you can customize to your heart’s content…without spending a fortune.  (These work with fluid, liquid makeup, keep in mind.) Personally, I’m psyched for these, and excited to see them in-store.

L’Oreal Root Concealer

I haven’t seen a single post about this anywhere but snagged it in a Target recently!  I don’t have TONS of grays yet, but in areas where hair is thinner, root concealers work like a charm!

I was SO excited to see a large-scale mass market brand come out with one!  It was only $6.99, which is in comparison to three to four times that for higher end brands (such as you might find in Ulta or Sephora.)

There were several shades ranging from Blondes to Black – I want to say maybe four or five!

The product dries fast and doesn’t smudge, which is awesome.  It’s light-weight and last through one shampoo – I’m kind of excited to try it! 🙂  Keep your eyes open – it’s out there!

New Nyxiness!

So as a follow-up to my other post “Nix Hydra Touch Brightener”...there are is a ton of new Nyxiness for you to check out on Ulta.

Not only that, though, I actually saw these IN-store a few days ago – not just the Brightener, but most of these products!  Why am I excited?  Well, as most of you know, we see the newness online WELL before the products make into the stores (the wait time before we can test them out is a drag!)  But, because a lot of retailers are changing up their cosmetic planograms for the new year and new seasons, many of the new items are in store faster than usual (so I’ve noticed.)

I think my favorite item is the Sculpt And Highlight Face Duo.  While there are tons of double-ended products out there, this one is really nice – it’s creamy and smooth, and I love color combinations.  I bought the Ivory/Taupe (LOVE that it’s taupe hue, not a bronze – works amazingly as a sultry gaze deepener! 😉 )

The additional colors are:

  • Light/Almond
  • Vanilla/Caramel
  • Peach/Cinnamon
  • Sand/Chestnut
  • Honey/Espresso

I love the names too… 🙂

Spring 2016 – Neutrogena

I was excited to see some of the new Neutrogena Spring 2016 products on Ulta!  The first of these is the SkinClearng Complexion Perfector (probably the product I was most excited about personally.)

Per the site, the Perfector:

  • Fights acne and provides even coverage to help correct skin’s complexion
  • Blends naturally with your skin to instantly blur the look of acne and minimize appearance of pores
  • Matte finish controls shine
  • Won’t clog pores, hypoallergenic
  • Dermatologist tested

I love products with Salicylic acid because as an athlete, sweat is a sure thing!  Salicylic acid helps to exfoliate the skin, keeping it clear – for me, just a wash isn’t enough (I actually  use a body wash as well since rolling on mats in a heavy gi is bad news for skin and pores!)

Next up is the Healthy Skin Anti-Aging Perfector.  This “moisturizing retinol treatment with sunscreen” offers sheer coverage and an easy blend.  Per the site:

  • Instantly erases the look of imperfections
  • Smooths out skin’s texture and reduces the appearance of fine lines
  • Gives skin a natural, dewy finish
  • Dermatologist tested
