Korean Skincare At Target – January 2017

I always get excited when I hear US retailers are expanding their overseas brands – especially stores like Target, which tend to be EVERYwhere (and therefore more easily accessible.)

I’ve been droning on about the benefits of Asian skincare for – literally – decades.  I wrote a thesis surrounding the topic back in 1999, to “date” myself.  It wasn’t until the last two years or so that I’ve really seen it take off…but I can assure you, I’m THRILLED, as it makes tracking such products down a LOT easier.

You can certainly find your share at Ulta (for another major retailer) and I’ve seen Asian concepts rolling out from US and European brands at mass market retailers, such as CVS and Walgreens – so the types of products (think sheet masks, cushions, essence waters etc) have become more available to the masses in general.  But to have actual Asian brands carried in the US is an awesome affair.

Musingsofamuse posted here to mention a few of the items hitting shelves later this month.  Mizon is an incredibly well-featured brand (for good reason too – the products live up to the hype!) so I’m pretty psyched to see it among the ranks.  She’s provided the following list (which you can see by clicking her link in the text above as well) along with mention of Peach & Lily founder Alicia Yoon, responsible for this roll-out:

  • Aprilskin Deep Cleaning Facial Cleanser $7
  • Ariul Sheet Mask Skin Texture Improvement Facial Mask Treatment $20
  • Caolion Cream Deep Cleaning Facial Mask Treatment $26
  • Caolion Cream Pore Minimizing Facial Mask Treatment $20
  • Caolion Cream Skin Texture Improvement Facial Mask Treatment $23
  • Caolion Stick Moisturizing Facial Moisturizer $16
  • Lagom Gel Basic Cleansing Facial Cleanser $17
  • Lagom Spray Skin Texture Improvement Facial Tone $21
  • Mizon Snail Repair Eye $22
  • Mizon Snail Repair Cream $38
  • Mizon Face Masks $3.50 Each
  • Twenty Four Seven Cosmetic Highlighter White $22
  • Twenty Four Seven Lipstick Medium $29

I look forward to seeing these in-store in the next few weeks.  Definitely refreshing…and incredibly good for your beau.  And that’s the thing, really…the sooner in life you start, the better off you are.  In skincare – as with many things – preventative and proactive care is the BEST kind.

A Girl Can Have Goals

So the moment I saw Sarah Connor in Terminator 2, around age 13 or so…that was that.  I thought “holy smokes, I want to be that badass!”  There is something amazing to me about a woman who can truly hold her own – I never really enjoyed the “damsel in distress” idea because I felt like I wanted to rely on MYSELF – even as a little girl I loved the idea of being “strong” all around.

I was always in the mindframe – definitely more tomboy than not, and in love all things dark and otherworldly…  My favorite haunt at museums (aside from the Ancient Egyptian wing!) was the Armory…and then there’s that thing about Martial Arts…so…I guess this isn’t a stretch!

As for firearms, I’m not nearly as proficient as I’d like to be, but I’m working on it.  My hunnie was a competitive shooter so I am incredibly thankful for the advice, guidance, and teaching – it is definitely something you have to get used to.  I have a highly acute auditory system so I have to double up on ear protection – even then, I STILL flinch!  But…I’ll get there!  If nothing else, understanding the mechanics of a firearm in a crazy world is very much a skill that can save a Life (maybe even your own.)  I don’t take the responsibility or act lightly.

I do wonder why there are so many people wearing tactical gear at the range though – I’m not sure it is wholly required for sales and handing out lanes…  But then…I kind of want this outfit so maybe I shouldn’t be talking??

I feel like we can say so much about ourselves in pictures… Lofty goals, I realize, but it won’t keep me from dreaming! 😉  I’m definitely on the tougher chick spectrum (as opposed to the girlie), but I don’t think that’s a bad thing.  I think strong women are flat-out phenomenal, and I’m honored if I can even be a fraction as awesome as many I know and respect….even those in art or film!

More Art that I love…

More from Martial Arts.

And me in a vast nutshell!

Best V-Day Ever

Let me be clear – I don’t celebrate Valentine’s Day, and haven’t since I was a little girl making Valentines for my classmates! Why?  I personally disapprove of the notion that other people (let’s be frank, our significant others!) are pressured with an obligation to “do something nice” for us on this specific day of the year.

To me, the beauty of love is that you appreciate one another EVERY day – it doesn’t matter whether you show your gratitude with a little note or card, doing something to make your husband / wife / boyfriend’s etc day a little bit easier, or just saying “I love and appreciate you.”  The point is that you don’t NEED a designated day to show you care, nor to spoil or shower your lover with affection and appreciation.

Now that said, if you do celebrate, more power to you and your other half!  There is certainly nothing wrong with enjoying it if you do!

Sunday happened to be a perfect day, though – spending time with my man is always a great day anyway, but we got to indulge in an activity he is incredibly gifted with / passionate about, and one I am eager to learn and also enjoy – target shooting.

I LOVE that he has passions and I want always to encourage that he takes time out to enjoy whatever those activities are – supporting each other in what brings personal joy is so important.  I view being able to do that activity WITH him as a gift...and I wouldn’t have wanted to do anything else that day.  ❤

There is so much about it that I enjoyed, and so much about him that I cherish…

I am harder on myself than anyone else I’ve ever met in my Life and as a result, I can ruin a perfectly good time (for me and everyone else!) by holding myself to some absurdly high standard…yes, even as a neophyte (which means, it is okay NOT to be perfect, hello!!!)  He is tremendously patient with me, supportive and encouraging – and honestly, that makes all the difference.

I have had the habit historically of overthinking and getting in my own way – taking a deep breath, letting go of unreasonable anxiety, and appreciating (not to forget accepting) the instruction helps me stay grounded and in a “fun” mindset.

The whole point is that activities, especially together, are supposed to be fun – an opportunity to learn is a blessing anyway you take it, and when you are learning alongside your best friend?  Really doesn’t get better.  So even though I wasn’t totally aware that it was the 14th (and I wasn’t!), it was a memorable day filled with love and my best friend – I couldn’t have asked for more. ❤

Palmer’s Eventone Suncare

I can’t express how important sun protection is – whether you are training outdoors regularly, or someone who just has exposure on a regular basis.  It isn’t just about aging – pesky lines and spots – either!  It is about being preventative with you skincare so as to avoid dangerous conditions as much as possible.

I used to train (figure skating) on an outdoor rink all winter as a child – for YEARS.  I was also a rollerblader who would frequent the beach trails or 10-mile outdoor paths in one go.  We didn’t know as much at the time, and I’d not be surprised if I had forgone my sunscreen back then.  These days, I still need to be better about arms, neck, shoulders, ears (the generally exposed areas when it’s warmer), but I ALWAYS have at least 30 SPF on my face.  Even then, I could reapply more frequently, but I definitely do make an effort.

IT MATTERS.

I recently saw this new Sincere products from Palmer’s Cocoa Butter Formula at Target.  I love their regular Cocoa Butter (the scent reminds me of cookie batter!), so I was excited to see that SPF has been added to these.

I also love sprays because they are much easier to maneuver for the tough-to-reach spots like the back, back of neck, back of shoulders etc.

Whether or not you like THIS brand, or others, it’s worth checking out the sunscreen aisle – yes, ALL times of the year.  Your epidermis will thank you, as will your body down the line.

Mizon At Target

I am a huge fan of Asian skincare (a topic I am sure I have exhausted at this point.)  I personally love the approach that the Asian cultures have taken towards their skincare, and love how the brands are always ever innovating to keep up.

One of my favorite brands is Mizon (their snail cream is phenomenal) and I am delighted to say it has just shown up on mass marketer Target’s website.

Target.com

Target.com

Back in the day I had to rely on the DutyFree shops at the airport in Honk Kong to buy up my stash of goodies.  When I left the Fashion industry and stopped heading to China all the time, I had to resort to eBay scouring… Nowadays, you can find more of these brands in our own USA retail shops – thank you for making Life easier!

L’Oreal Root Concealer

I haven’t seen a single post about this anywhere but snagged it in a Target recently!  I don’t have TONS of grays yet, but in areas where hair is thinner, root concealers work like a charm!

I was SO excited to see a large-scale mass market brand come out with one!  It was only $6.99, which is in comparison to three to four times that for higher end brands (such as you might find in Ulta or Sephora.)

IMG_1484

There were several shades ranging from Blondes to Black – I want to say maybe four or five!

IMG_1485

The product dries fast and doesn’t smudge, which is awesome.  It’s light-weight and last through one shampoo – I’m kind of excited to try it! 🙂  Keep your eyes open – it’s out there!

Maybelline Baby Skin Instant Flush

Maybelline has come out with a whole variety of products based on the “Baby” concept – Baby Skin, and Baby Lips.  New to the growing lineup is Baby Skin Instant Cheek Flush Blushes.  I actually thought I posted this already but apparently not!

I found these on Target’s website but they are NOT yet available (frustrating when they do that but…creating demand works!)

Colors include:

  • Pop of Peach
  • Pinking of You

The product is designed to be incredibly easy to use (“fool-proof”), sheer, and natural.

Beautygurus on Istagram saw this in-store and posted photos (thanks to her!)  I appreciate seeing these photos because it is a little hard to tell what they’ll look like with the package photos alone.  The fin design seems to make it easier to grab, but the bulkier, EOS-like style isn’t really my favorite.  Still, I love sheer flushes so…maybe worth it?
