Perfect words for Summer Solstice…or Life.

Where was this when I was ballroom dancing! In ballroom, bronze is not only “beautiful” but begrudgingly a “must-do.” If you want to be taken seriously – and I’m not exaggerating – you better believe you need to grace that floor looking like a golden goddess. Pale skin is NOT in, much to my own dismay. Protesting the fact won’t get you anywhere. . .
Trust me on that.
Enter – years too late (*insert expletive here*) – this phenomenally, brilliantly clear Hydra-Mousse from Tan-Luxe. It apparently delivers exactly what it claims to, minus all the horrendous “side effects” of a traditionally brown-dyed solution.
Now I can’t be too hard on the brown-tinted selections out there – they DO make it easier to see and smooth out mistakes. BUT…the prospect of using a self-tanner and NOT having overly-orange skin where you’re drier, OR clothing, sheets, and expensive costumes that have decided to tan along with you. . .well, that’s pretty damn fabulous.
I mean, dancers everywhere can rejoice finally. No more brown streaks, overly glowing elbow, or horrific scent (thanks a lot, DHA!) It isn’t inexpensive necessarily but then if you’re saving on cleaning bills (and not freaking out about warming up and starting to smell funny!) this might be for you!
MAC has always been a fav of mine – for performances, it’s hard to beat the incredibly cool array of products, colors and finishes…and honestly, it is just such and innovative and funky brand.
Here were are just at the front end of Fall, and less Autumnal, more Spring / Summer is cropping up (isn’t that the ay, though – Fashion works on the same, seemingly quirky timeline!)
Britishbeautyblogger recently posted about what’s coming for 2017 – Keep in mind that there is ALWAYS something new – a new collaboration, color, collection, whatever! – from MAC. But she shares a lot of photos of new stuff that you might want to keep your eyes open for next year…so check out the link above to see what’s new.
Apparently it’s everything from colored mascaras, to fancy gilded powders, colorful palettes, and some magic thrown into the mix…
We have a fun Farmer’s Market in our City that runs on Sundays during the warmer months – while we aren’t there every weekend like some of my buddies, it’s a fun Sunday morning activity, and a nice way to stock up on healthy options for the week!
Generally I’m scoping out the veggie situation, as vegetables are the bulk of my diet. Fruits are great too, like melons and Fuji apples (when they are in season – hurry up, October!)
You can also pick up flowers, healthy greens, fun seasonal goodies like pumpkins and gourds (hello, Halloween!), grass-fed meat, fresh eggs, and even hummus and mead…
Since I’m not a sit-on-the-beach type, I love this summer activity option – it’s nice to get up and out and DO something…and it also makes food shopping and meal prep easier for the rest of the week.
For more Nutrition jazz…
So Cushions have become a major thing in the US – maybe not quite as massive as the impact from their originating countries, but they’ve definitely taken off in the last couple of years. The formulations cover the gamut of beauty and color cosmetics, to skincare, so you can bet at least a few of your favorite products can be found in this format.
Take UV protection for example… How adorable is this Etude House Sun Blind Cushion? It’s nod-to-nautical stripes and bright white base make the compact itself something you wouldn’t mind pulling out. What I love is that this precious little package packs an SPF 50+ / PA +++ punch.
In case you aren’t sure of the designations (let me say first, I am not a dermatologist, but this may help at least explain the terminology!):
The PA is not regulated by the FDA, and is a Japanese and Korean designation. These days the best way to be sure you have both covered is a “broad spectrum” or “full spectrum” on the label. Still, it does indicate that the product offers at least some UVA protection – PA +++ is the highest grade of UVA protection available, with a Persistent Pigment Darkening (PPD) rating of more than 8.)
In any case, the Etude House packaging makes taking care of your skin – in Summer or any other season – a cinch. It’s incredibly easy to tote around, making for quick and easy reapplication. With skincare, ease of use always helps makes applying the proper amount more a habit, and less of a chore. NICE.
Superoxiwhat?! I know…that’s a mouthful… But NIOD has some really awesome products and this one is worth a mention.
I love mists and facial sprays – not only in summer when the heat index is driving upwards, but also after workouts, after washing my face, even just after a bath. Mists can offer a little extra hydration, element protection, oil control, calming effects, you name it. The NIOD Superoxide Dismutase Saccharide Mist is, however, a super-charged skin-saver…
This unique “dermal treatment” is designed to protect your precious peau (skin!) from “many forms of oxidative stress, dermal water loss and inflammation, all of which contribute to loss of visible skin quality over time.” In other words, this is meant to be used OFTEN as a preventative protection, maintaining the beauty of your skin now, and staving off nasty age-causing aggressors.
Deciem, the parent Company, always goes well above and beyond with explanations – sometimes it is a bit much to read but I would rather err on the side of knowing more, than less. The key technologies used include the below (and please do reference the link above for a full description of each):
The potent stuff is at the top of the ingredient list, which is always a wonderful thing…though again, I’m not surprised – this Company’s products are no-nonsense and definitely deliver. (PS: My OWN reviews – I have used some of their products and really felt they did what they intended – no one asked me to say that, nor would I boost a brand I didn’t really like!)
The bottle is apparently quite large, so you do get a lot for the money. Personally, I LOVE the ease of use of mists, and anything that might help ward off unseasonably early wrinkles and skin damage is GREAT by me! Healthy, happy skin! 🙂
I never use Snapchat – in fact, I’ve no idea, really, what the app even looks like. But Budgetbeautyblog posted an image (this IS Instagram, no?!) of some fun new highlighters from L’Oreal.
I personally have AN ARSENAL of highlighters. My wedding is in October, so naturally I am sifting through them all to see which ones I will actually end up using (wouldn’t it be tremendous to layer them all!? Ermagawd!) I am incredibly discriminating, however, when it comes to “glow-getters” – and I am ever-determined to find ones that DO. NOT. GLITTER.
Back in my college days, wearing glitter on my eyes, dark and painted jeans, and combat boots was no big deal. In ballroom, it was basically a prerequisite. But – as I have droned on about over and over again – I no longer feel my skin has to sparkle.
No. No, thank you. I just want to glow – healthily – in a gleaming, possibly pearlescent manner. But any sign of glitter – however small – will send me running the other way. When the sun comes out (or the moon!) I expect my radiance to appear as though I am, indeed, lit from within.
Lofty wishes, maybe… Demanding of my products, 1,000%. But I have found highlighters that glow beautifully, minus that disco ball scenario. I don’t know if these L’Oreal liquid creams will just be “sheen” or something too-young for my taste – they look quite lovely swatches here, though! Clavicle, brown bone, cheeks…the shades would work anywhere. Curious to see more about these in the next few weeks!
