Spring 2017 – YSL Touche Eclat Le Cushion

Ever building on the Touche Eclat empire, YSL will be launching the coveted glow-getting formula in a new format for Spring 2017.  Yep, you guessed it…a cushion.  LE Cushion, to be exact. 😉 The product will be offered in 7 shades designed to enhance radiance with natural coverage.

In addition to that exciting news, the Company is also brining in three Touch Eclat Glow Shots, a highlighter boasting the hefty promise of a 10-hour strobe effect AND ultra hydration, via hyaluronic acid, vitamin E, and Ruscus.  Glow Shots will come in 3 shades:

  • No.1 Daylight – Create a reflective, mirror effect (light skin tones)
  • No.2 Sunrise – Create a rosy glow (light skin tones)
  • No.3 Sunset –  Create a healthy glow (medium to dark skin tones)

And…one more dashing add…the YSL Touche Eclat White, Limited Edition.  I’m already chomping at the bit for this one because a “porcelain effect” is like music to my goth-y ears… It can be used for adding a beautiful sheen, or for more extreme strobe and contour effects.

La Roche Posay – Effaclar Duo Unifant

I’m a huge La Roche Posay fan – their products are great quality, and always manage to deliver.  The Effaclar lineup is a hugely popular one, and has been since Effaclar Duo (specifically) launched about two and a half years ago.  As an athlete, taking care of my skin is not only important, but imperative – rolling on sweaty mats means I have to take extra steps to keep my peau clear!

The newest addition (no launch date just yet!), Effaclar Duo Unifant, takes the anti-blemish technology and pairs it with mineral pigments to visibly even your skin tone and reduce redness, while going to work on potential blemishes AND letting your beauty show – nice.

The formula boasts a combination of:

  • Niacinamide, an anti-inflammatory form of Vitamin B3
  • LHA. a hydroxy acid (and Effaclar favorite) to aid in cell renewal
  • Piroctone Olamine, which fights off bacteria
  • Procerad helps to calm the kind of inflammation that allows dark spots to form
  • Linoleum Acid, which regulates sebum

The product comes in only two shades for now – light and medium (my disappointment resides here, as I feel it is important to offer a deep, and ultra fair as well.)  Overall, though, I love this brand, and I LOVE non-masklike products that let the best of your skin show through.

Body Shop Instaglow CC

There really isn’t any let up on the “glow”-bestowing products of late, what with the surge of strobing, highlighting and contouring.

I’m not complaining, for sure – anything that boosts the “wakefulness” factor is a whole-heartedly embraced (rest assured!)

Maybe long work hours (or slow-poke coworkers!) are leaving your drained.  Maybe it’s a heavy, physically demanding training load during the week that’s left you exhausted.  Or perhaps it’s your newborn, or the obnoxiously loud neighbors next door… Whatever is robbing you of your precious shuteye might also be guilty of stealing the ever-coveted, fully-recharged radiance you get when you actually DO sleep…and stay stress-free.

Since the latter two conditions are sometimes tough to come by, the plethora of products out there that help us achieve a rested look are definitely appreciated.

The newest on the scene are The Body Shop’s Instaglow CC Creams (hit stores on May 17th overseas – not sure about USA as yet.)

Designed to even skin tone, temper shine, minimize pores, soothe (with Aloe Vera), moisturize (with Marula Oil, for a purported 24 hours) AND illuminate, these little guys pack quite a punch.  They also happen to boast an SPF of 20PA+++ (future signs of aging can take a hike, thanks.)

The shades include:

  • Bright Glow – Light skin, white pigment with purple pearl
  • Peachy Glow – Light to medium skin (might be nice for circles?)
  • Warm Glow – Dark skin, bronzed brown with golden pearl

ReallyRee did a great review and shared some nice swatches, so definitely check it out – what I like is that there doesn’t *seem* to be perceptible shimmer…  Glow sans glitter is the way I like to go, personally!

These aren’t meant to be full coverage by any stretch…but alone, or paired with other color cosmetics, these definitely appear to give you a boost…and who doesn’t love THAT idea?!  Not too many Body Shops near me but I will absolutely drop in and check them out when I come across one!

The Color Corrective Trend Continues…

I feel like there is a literal ONSLAUGHT of these products (not to mention posts, articles, newsletters etc…)  I’m not exactly complaining – I learned how to utilize such “correctors” early on as a performing athlete, and they WORK – but it is somewhat a sensory overload situation at this point!

In any case, if you are interested in further expanding your arsenal of perfectors, Sephora has a brilliant selection of items to choose from!

Algenist has a new, concentrated liquid dropper formulation, which you can score a deluxe sample of at the moment…  (Dropper bottle foundations and serums are also (as no doubt you are aware) a major 2015 tail-end trend.)

Becca has four shades which appear more pigmented, and therefore much like the Kryolan or Ben Nye wheels I’d buy at Ricky’s New York back in my competitive dancing days…

Marc Jacobs has three swirled pop-up sticks, a fun take on the trend that I haven’t seen quite the likes of elsewhere.

Sephora has launched seven gel-serum correctors in a lip gloss style format, as has Urban Decay (who has five shades.)

YSL’s infamous Touch Eclat ALSO now comes in three corrective hues, which I have to say is pretty fabulous (the original is divine.)

Smashbox is offering a pencil in four color-fixing shades, which is great for easy application.  In line with uber-ease, Cover-FX has their own new stick for brightening (LOVE brightening!), thought it does also come in five other colors!

For those in love with powders, I adore the cute, loose pots from Besame, who have expanded one shade into five lovely tints…  Now if palettes are more your speed – having multiple colors in one place is often incredibly useful! – you might like Make Up Forever’s (which comes in five combinations), or the cheeky six-sampling from Benefit.

It’s rather a lot but I guess better to be able to choose from a larger variety depending on your own skin correcting needs!

Dandelion Dew

Nothing can wake you up faster that a flush on your cheeks – if you are fair-skinner like I am, that’s especially true!

I was excited to see Benefit’s new Dandelion Dew, a matte liquid blush in Dandelion’s signature soft pinky-peach hue.  Matte it may be, it claims to leave a lit-from-within “delicate gleam” – I like the idea that it can add that kind of youthful radiance withOUT shimmer (something I have very much outgrown over the years.)

The formula is lightweight, bendable, and adds a glow to any skin tone.  I am eager to check it out in store…not that I need it, necessarily (but has that stopped any of us, really?)

Smashbox Color Correcting Stick

It seems that trends are much in favor of color correcting products, both at the mass market level, as well as higher end…

As with the Urban Decay correcting fluid, these Smashbox pencils are designed to even the complexion by blending away things like redness, excessive sallowness, darkened circles etc.  What I like is that there is both a Peach and an Orange in this 4 sku lineup though, offering a tone to ease “tiredness” for fairer skins, and for deeper.

The sticks can be used wet or dry depending on what kind of coverage you need, and they do come with a sharpener.

Green – reduces redness
Lavender – brightens sallowness / yellowness
Peach (for light skin) – illuminates and conceals dark circles
Orange (for deeper skin) – illuminates and conceals dark circles

MAC Matchmaster Shade Intelligence Compact Foundation

MAC’s new Foundation is available on the MAC website, and will be rolling out shortly to stores (December 26th.)  Per the site, this product is intended to be imperceptible, and as real as an individual’s skin tone.  It looks a lot like the cushion foundations that have been emerging (taking a cue from Asian products still – love it! 🙂 )

“Its innovative cushion and sheer liquid formula lends true-to-life shade perfection and coverage, while letting your natural skin show through. A cutting-edge delivery system allows the formula to be released in a superfine layer, providing a natural finish and sheer to medium buildable coverage. Launching with a spectrum of 12 light to deep dark shades, and debuting with the new 197SH Duo Fibre Square Brush and Matchmaster Concealer.”

I’m not 100% sure if this comes with a sponge, but the duo-fiber brush (MAC 197SH) is available for $35 if you want the extra tool for the kit. It’s a nice, squared off shape that can navigate around the face for seamless coverage.
