Halloween Humor – Christmas Time

I get irritated when Halloween stuff starts fading out of stores. . .or hits the sales racks, especially when it’s before the holiday has even occurred.  Excuse me, turkeys and Santa Clause? Wait yer damn turn!

Ugh. Retail-schmeetail. I find it incredibly annoying, and I *might* even teeter on offense with this one.  If I see ONE Christmas sweater before Halloween, and said sweater happens to be on fire…I have no idea what happened.

Goth Humor – (Not) Sorry, Summer

I appreciate all the seasons, I really do.  But if I had my way, it would be Halloween every day of the year (and no, I love it so much that it wouldn’t get old. Halloweentown 365? Sign me up!)

So I tend to buy Halloween-ish decor all year round…it just happens to be a whole lot easier when retailers jump on board.  I not only don’t know what to do with myself because I want ALL of it, but I try to enjoy every moment of full-on Halloween before Thanksgiving and Christmas ruin the party. Damn you, turkeys and Santa… Give me at least a *small* window to grieve!

How Well The Internet Knows You

On one hand, it’s a little (or a lot) frightening what the Internet knows.  Fortunately I’m not a celeb so I’m not really worried about anyone looking up my “dirt” and coming after me.  (That said, I’m not sure they would once they saw my preferences…)

Even though data is being gathered, it’s nice (on the other hand) that a a monstrous retail site can suggest things you may like.  Double edged sword (no pun intended!) in that I might spend more, true. . .

BUT…I’d rather have the option to skip the fluff and go to the “good stuff” (or at least what I consider the good stuff) even if it means seeing The Art Of War, 5000 Spells, or Sherlock Holmes again (which already grace my bookcase.)

Korean Skincare At Target – January 2017

I always get excited when I hear US retailers are expanding their overseas brands – especially stores like Target, which tend to be EVERYwhere (and therefore more easily accessible.)  

I’ve been droning on about the benefits of Asian skincare for – literally – decades.  I wrote a thesis surrounding the topic back in 1999, to “date” myself.  It wasn’t until the last two years or so that I’ve really seen it take off…but I can assure you, I’m THRILLED, as it makes tracking such products down a LOT easier.

You can certainly find your share at Ulta (for another major retailer) and I’ve seen Asian concepts rolling out from US and European brands at mass market retailers, such as CVS and Walgreens – so the types of products (think sheet masks, cushions, essence waters etc) have become more available to the masses in general.  But to have actual Asian brands carried in the US is an awesome affair.

Musingsofamuse posted here to mention a few of the items hitting shelves later this month.  Mizon is an incredibly well-featured brand (for good reason too – the products live up to the hype!) so I’m pretty psyched to see it among the ranks.  She’s provided the following list (which you can see by clicking her link in the text above as well) along with mention of Peach & Lily founder Alicia Yoon, responsible for this roll-out:

I look forward to seeing these in-store in the next few weeks.  Definitely refreshing…and incredibly good for your beau.  And that’s the thing, really…the sooner in life you start, the better off you are.  In skincare – as with many things – preventative and proactive care is the BEST kind.

Amazon’s Jumped On The Korea Bandwagon

I almost fell over when I saw this e-mail… Not so much because Korean brand items are being offered, but because they are being offered in such a full-fledged, committed way…on behalf of Amazon, one of the most massive on-line retailers.  That fact alone made the “message” here particularly noteworthy.

I’ve been using Korean and Japanese (in particular) skincare and color for almost 20 years – my college thesis was about cosmetic companies expanding into Asia, and how they specifically tailored their products, marketing, and packages to meet the needs…and wants…of consumers across the World (often it was in stark contrast to those of the majority of Americans.  Minus myself and maybe a relatively small Caucasian contingency!)  

It fascinated me then, and fascinates me now – I am THRILLED to see how much US and European companies have embraced the generally ahead-of-their-time Asian skincare and color cosmetic trends, and how they have applied them to their own formulations and packaging.

Urban Outfitters, as one example, never struck me as the kind of store to offer this kind of thing… Quirky, absolutely.  But UO always felt somewhat bohemian and earthy to me…not really in this playful, pampering vein.  So I am pleasantly surprised to see that they offer a lot of these goodies – the best part being that you can actually play with testers! 😀 (While many of these products can be tracked down on eBay, in Korean markets, or China Town and the like…there aren’t any testers.)

So even though you don’t have testers I can fool around with, I’m terribly excited, Amazon.  Way to go!  It’s totally okay if you are later to the party…because you have clearly arrived, and are standing behind it now! 🙂
