Summer 2016 – Lancome Glow Subtle Silky Highlighter

The strobing, highlighting, glow-getting trend has been seriously string for some months now.  I feel like it doesn’t matter WHAT season it is, radiance is always a la mode.  These, though, do lend themselves beautifully to summer, given their rosy and golden sheen.

Lancome’s Glow Subtil Silky Creme Highlighters also happen to be pretty gorgeous to look at – annoying when you have too much stuff to begin with, and there’s even more you want to buy!  The perpetual predicament!

PS, I loved that they had swatches on light and dark skin (or swatches at ALL!)  It reminded me of what Colourpop does with showing how the shades appear on multiple skin tones.  Love that!

The highlighter is designed to give a “natural-looking, soft-focused glow” – always the goal, I think!  It can be layered without getting too chalky or glittery – two more bonus details.  The product contains conditioning ingredients, and “special blend of dispersed elastomer and pigments” which give the formula it’s bouncy texture.  Sounds very Asian inspired to moi!

Body Shop Instaglow CC

There really isn’t any let up on the “glow”-bestowing products of late, what with the surge of strobing, highlighting and contouring.

I’m not complaining, for sure – anything that boosts the “wakefulness” factor is a whole-heartedly embraced (rest assured!)

Maybe long work hours (or slow-poke coworkers!) are leaving your drained.  Maybe it’s a heavy, physically demanding training load during the week that’s left you exhausted.  Or perhaps it’s your newborn, or the obnoxiously loud neighbors next door… Whatever is robbing you of your precious shuteye might also be guilty of stealing the ever-coveted, fully-recharged radiance you get when you actually DO sleep…and stay stress-free.

Since the latter two conditions are sometimes tough to come by, the plethora of products out there that help us achieve a rested look are definitely appreciated.

The newest on the scene are The Body Shop’s Instaglow CC Creams (hit stores on May 17th overseas – not sure about USA as yet.)

Designed to even skin tone, temper shine, minimize pores, soothe (with Aloe Vera), moisturize (with Marula Oil, for a purported 24 hours) AND illuminate, these little guys pack quite a punch.  They also happen to boast an SPF of 20PA+++ (future signs of aging can take a hike, thanks.)

The shades include:

  • Bright Glow – Light skin, white pigment with purple pearl
  • Peachy Glow – Light to medium skin (might be nice for circles?)
  • Warm Glow – Dark skin, bronzed brown with golden pearl

ReallyRee did a great review and shared some nice swatches, so definitely check it out – what I like is that there doesn’t *seem* to be perceptible shimmer…  Glow sans glitter is the way I like to go, personally!

These aren’t meant to be full coverage by any stretch…but alone, or paired with other color cosmetics, these definitely appear to give you a boost…and who doesn’t love THAT idea?!  Not too many Body Shops near me but I will absolutely drop in and check them out when I come across one!

Summer 2016 – Hourglass Illume Sheer Color Trio

Hourglass seems to be full steam ahead, taking no time to revel in the successes of the various Ambient products (powders and new primers)…

The newest goody, now available on Sephora’s site, is called the Illume Sheer Color Trio.  This multitasking product is designed to “define, brighten, and highlight your face.”  It combines a bronzer, a highlighter, and a just-flushed blush, all in cream-to-satin formulas.

The highlighter claims to add a “luminous glow without heavy glitter or shimmer.”  For me, that’a s HUGE plus – I don’t want to sparkle in the sun…I just want to glow.

All three shades are sheer and buildable, allowing you to achieve youthful, fresh radiance with a completely natural look.

It sounds pretty awesome – $62 is a lot, but if it becomes a holy grail for you, it’s worth it.  Personally, I’d love to snag just the blush shade!

Hourglass Ambient Lighting Correcting Primer – Update

I wrote about this branch-off product from Hourglass, the Ambient Correcting Primers, but we hadn’t seen too much detail at the time…

Beautizine posted a lovely review for those who have been awaiting swatches.

They should be available soon from Sephora (middle of April) so keep your eyes peeled!

Becca Luminous…Continued

It’s hard not to know about Becca’s original Shimmering Skin Perfector – I feel like it made a thousand cameos in articles about highlighting and strobing in the last few months.  I’ll be honest, though…I’m  not a fan.

Yes, of course I LOVE the idea of ethereal, glowing dewiness…  But shimmer?  I’ve moved on.

It isn’t that I don’t love shimmer and glitter also, for the right event or performance (the latter which goes without saying)…  But at nearly 38, I really don’t want it on my face anymore.  (I may well have it on my nails for moons to come…but I feel like I can get away with that a little bit easier.)

Despite my personal dislike, the product does have a wide following…and often five-stars on sites.  If you don’t mind glinting in the sun a bit, it is a lovely wash of radiance, and wears (as I understand) quite well.  Hopping on the coattails of that success, the Company is now offering a Shimmering Skin Perfector Luminous Blush.

I adore the word “luminous” so of course I checked it out…  The six shades being offered are:

  • Snapdragon (coral)
  • Tigerlily (tangerine)
  • Blushed Copper (copper)
  • Camellia (ballerina pink)
  • Foxglove (orchid)
  • Dahlia (cabernet)

The first two can be purchased using the link above, and the others will be available April 7th, on Sephora, and on Becca’s website.

I think I will wait to see swatches, and read descriptions before making a full judgment (it’s only fair) but I am thrilled that “luminosity” has become such a thing.  What makes it better is when a subtle flush of color is added – the two in combination are a surefire way to get to “youthful radiance”…and I’m all for that.

Still, I’d like it to be as natural and shimmer-free as possible.  As an athlete and woman who prefers to enhance just barely, it’s important to me not to drown out in a sea of sparkle.  Curious to see what these end up looking like on the skin!

Dandelion Dew

Nothing can wake you up faster that a flush on your cheeks – if you are fair-skinner like I am, that’s especially true!

I was excited to see Benefit’s new Dandelion Dew, a matte liquid blush in Dandelion’s signature soft pinky-peach hue.  Matte it may be, it claims to leave a lit-from-within “delicate gleam” – I like the idea that it can add that kind of youthful radiance withOUT shimmer (something I have very much outgrown over the years.)

The formula is lightweight, bendable, and adds a glow to any skin tone.  I am eager to check it out in store…not that I need it, necessarily (but has that stopped any of us, really?)
