Multi-Tasking Hydrating Mists

I’ve stocked up on a ton of facial mists myself over the years, usually finding them at Asian markets, Asian brands on eBay, or in New-York-City style pharmacies (think Evian, Avene, La Roche Posay…now FAR more accessible!)

Many mists these days, though, aren’t just for cooling, refreshing, or soothing.  Nowadays they are designed as much to protect you from the elements as they are for instant, feeling great at the time.

Garnier’s Moisture Bomb Multi Protection Hydrating Mist (that’s a mouthful!) protects the skin from UV pollution and oxidation, boasts an SPF of 30, and hydrates with a “lighter than air” feel – a nice addition to refreshing, don’t you think?  It isn’t here in the USA as far as I can tell…but you can find it in the UK at Boots, for one.  For a review, you can check out ReallyRee’s here.

For another multi-tasking variation on mists,Wander’s Glow Getter Mist promises non-comedogenic moisturizing, antibacterial soothing and healing, plus a radiant , dullness-busting, dewiness.  Yep, this rose-scented spray actually serves as a bit of a highlighter, how about that?  So not only do you feel refreshed, but you most certainly look it (provided you are wanting that all-over-glow it provides – with or without makeup underneath. Oilier skin types may not, but I haven’t seen too many reviews just yet to determine that!)

Last but definitely not least (since the brand has quite a cult following already for its masks!) is GlamGlow’s Glowsetter setting spray.  Per Sephora’s description: “This instant makeup finisher is infused with TEAOXI® complex (green tea, white tea, and red tea) paired with charged waters and caffeine to hydrate, energize, and smooth in a weightless fine mist. Inspired by Hollywood skin—always sexy, never shiny—this setting spray is the perfect makeup companion, finishing your look with a soft, cloud-like mist so your glow goes everywhere with you, no matter what.” Fan of the brand?  Eager to try it?

Clinique Fresh Pressed Pure Vitamin C 7 Day System

Vitamin C has long been used for brightening the skin, evening tone, and tackling pesky fine lines.  It isn’t new, in this case, but it is pretty fabulous, and is a great alternative to sometimes harsher (though effective) topicals such as hydroquinone and retinoids.

One of the biggest issues with Vitamin C preparations, though, is that it can lose efficacy and potency rather rapidly.  Once we open a large-scale bottle, chances are we aren’t going to get through the product as quickly as it will begin to break down.

I love that Clinque has addressed this packaging concern with their new Fresh Pressed 7 Day System with Pure Vitamin C. I also, not so secretly, love powdered cleansers that activate with water!

Per Clinique, the two part system is designed to keep you radiant and retexturized:

This ultrafine powder cleanser releases the de-aging power of fresh vitamin C to refresh and renew. Instantly skin is awakened, purified, with a refined texture and brighter look. Use in AM to jump-start skin’s renewal.

This unique booster releases the de-aging power of 10% fresh vitamin C to refresh and renew. Use with your favourite Clinique moisturizer to instantly brighten skin’s look—and deliver remarkably even-toned, retexturized skin starting in just one week.

ReallyRee offers a review here, and Musingsofamuse shares a little info here.

Personally, I love the sound of it.  Taking care of your skin early will make a difference, so if you are younger, you can benefit as much from it!

In addition to that exciting news, the Company is also brining in three Touch Eclat Glow Shots, a highlighter boasting the hefty promise of a 10-hour strobe effect AND ultra hydration, via hyaluronic acid, vitamin E, and Ruscus.  Glow Shots will come in 3 shades:

  • No.1 Daylight – Create a reflective, mirror effect (light skin tones)
  • No.2 Sunrise – Create a rosy glow (light skin tones)
  • No.3 Sunset –  Create a healthy glow (medium to dark skin tones)

And…one more dashing add…the YSL Touche Eclat White, Limited Edition.  I’m already chomping at the bit for this one because a “porcelain effect” is like music to my goth-y ears… It can be used for adding a beautiful sheen, or for more extreme strobe and contour effects.

Summer 2016 – L’Oreal True Match Highlight

I never use Snapchat – in fact, I’ve no idea, really, what the app even looks like.  But Budgetbeautyblog posted an image (this IS Instagram, no?!) of some fun new highlighters from L’Oreal.

I personally have AN ARSENAL of highlighters.  My wedding is in October, so naturally I am sifting through them all to see which ones I will actually end up using (wouldn’t it be tremendous to layer them all!? Ermagawd!I am incredibly discriminating, however, when it comes to “glow-getters” – and I am ever-determined to find ones that DO. NOT. GLITTER.

Back in my college days, wearing glitter on my eyes, dark and painted jeans, and combat boots was no big deal.  In ballroom, it was basically a prerequisite.  But – as I have droned on about over and over again – I no longer feel my skin has to sparkle.

No.  No, thank you.  I just want to glow – healthily – in a gleaming, possibly pearlescent manner.  But any sign of glitter – however small – will send me running the other way.  When the sun comes out (or the moon!) I expect my radiance to appear as though I am, indeed, lit from within.

Lofty wishes, maybe… Demanding of my products, 1,000%.  But I have found highlighters that glow beautifully, minus that disco ball scenario.  I don’t know if these L’Oreal liquid creams will just be “sheen” or something too-young for my taste – they look quite lovely swatches here, though!  Clavicle, brown bone, cheeks…the shades would work anywhere.  Curious to see more about these in the next few weeks!

Word Of The Day – Éclat (YSL, Is That You?!)

I smiled when I read the word of the day because the first thing that came to mind was YSL.

The Company’s Touche Éclat launched in 1992 – I was still in middle school so it was just off my radar.  When I got to college a few years later, however, Sephora stores started cropping up near campus – the store was a whole other realm of retail because it provided a one-stop-shopping experience for all things color (cosmetics, makeup etc) and skincare without having to deal with a full on department store. Ah, the brilliance.  Having been a performing athlete most of my Life I was used to a perpetual search for glitz and glitter (one I daresay took much more effort before the likes of Sephora.)

Back then I was far more obviously-Goth, but there was something about shimmer (the dancer and figure skater in me?) that always pulled me in.  Yes, glitter and badassery – in my own Geminian mind, they worked perfectly well in tandem.  I was regularly told I looked “intimidating” and I blended so well at a Type O show that no one would have been the wiser, but yes…my closet housed an absolutely arsenal of products.

Glowing, radiant, glimmering…all worked for me at that age – I was completely unabashed and frankly got a ton of girls hooked on the glitter.  It became a trend among the class, even with the sorority girls (with whom I shared little else in common.)  The other must-have?  Products that could fake “awake.”  Yep, countless sleepless nights writing papers, finishing homework, wolfing down a third dinner…some mornings we all needed some help (my undereye bags the most!)

At 18 it seems like sleeplessness doesn’t show… Or maybe it’s that we think it “shouldn’t”?  I can’t speak for anyone else but – while not nearly as pronounced as it can be at 38 – it showed!  Enter YSL’s cult Touche Éclat. ❤  (They’ve since followed suit with a ton more shades and a variety of “Neutralizers” (as below.)

I remember some years later working in executive retail management.  My hours were horrendous, the pay was incredibly low, and the work was exhausting!  I’d get home dead tired, and wake up feeling a shade worse than that…but I recall one of the ladies on my staff saying “you always look so bright and awake!”  With a laugh (to balance my “OMG, are you serious?!” thought process) I told her it was thanks to YSL.  “Just let me believe it -you look beautiful,” she replied. Talk about a compliment (more for the product than myself!)

So it was tried and true for me as much as all the cult followers out there, I guess! They’ve expanded in to color corrective versions also, which I have to say is hugely intelligent based on the of-the-moment trends!  I haven’t used those myself, but some days I think it would be a wise purchase… My bed, the devil on one shoulder, the pen, the angel on the other?

Autumn / Winter 2016 – Dior Skyline

Another as-always-thourough post from ChicProfile on the newest from Dior (lost of photos!)

As a tip…The backstage scene during runway shows are guaranteed to reveal some newness so I generally will check out those photos specifically when reviewing catwalk coverage.

I love Dior generally, and have always appreciated the quality of their products (cosmetic and otherwise.)  There is something to be said for flawlessness…

Backstage – Dior Colour Filters

Dior has a ton of products masquerading in this package, one of which is my favorite balm in the world.  And generally, these snappy, back-knobbed sticks show up during the runway shows, sneaking their way into the backstage photos while models get prepped to show off the new collection (clothing and cosmetics alike!)

These two new “Fix It” products, available August 1st, come in four shades, all designed to mask imperfections and unwanted tones:

  • Apricot (great for dark circles)
  • Yellow (can tone down ruddiness, as well as help with circles)
  • Blue (good for sallowness or overly-orange that needs to be evened, as well as adding radiance)
  • Green (tones down redness)

The color portion of this 2-in-1 tool wraps around a “soft focus” core that supposedly helps to diffuse lines and creases (tons of blurring products out there, so no surprise.)  The great news is that for BritishBeautyBlogger, this actually didn’t settle into lines, so it delivered what it claims it will.  She also felt it was nicely pigmented (which you can see in her swatches – I was impressed with the color payoff also given the ratio of core to color.)

These are meant to be used as a primer for the eyes, lips, and the face, so feel free to play around!
