Healthy Breakfast When Dining Out

This really is my usual cast of characters, so it’s fair to say that MOST of my dining-out breakfast options look a lot like this (which, for me, is a good thing!) ūüôā ¬†

IMG_6924

There are always a lot of great options, though Рyou never have to have full fat milk in your cereal, or even milk at all, for example Рmost places offer skim (lots of protein, less calories and fat), or soy or almond options.  You also can ask for greek yogurt in most establishments, in place of plain (less protein than greek, and often more sugar.)

You can absolutely ask for any condiments on the side, lest your dish come out drowning in something more caloric than you need. ¬†Fresh fruit and a tall glass of water are also great as they give some volume and a feeling of fullness…without being bad for you!

For me, the combination of healthy fats, protein, fiber and water content helps keep me satisfied a good while – I’m the kind of person who eats a LOT during the day, so consider that I probably need to eat more often than most. ¬†In this case, the fact that I am satisfied for a while indicates that the food items are doing their job nicely…withOUT being bad for me!

Body Shop Instaglow CC

There really isn’t any let up on the “glow”-bestowing products of late, what with the surge of strobing, highlighting and contouring. ¬†

I’m not complaining, for sure – anything that boosts the “wakefulness” factor is a whole-heartedly embraced (rest assured!)

Maybe long work hours (or slow-poke coworkers!) are leaving your drained. ¬†Maybe it’s¬†a heavy, physically demanding training load during the week that’s left you exhausted. ¬†Or perhaps it’s your newborn, or the obnoxiously loud neighbors next door… Whatever is robbing you of your precious shuteye might also be guilty of stealing the ever-coveted, fully-recharged radiance you get when you actually DO sleep…and stay stress-free. ¬†

Since the latter two conditions are sometimes tough to come by, the plethora of products out there that help us achieve a rested look are definitely appreciated.

The newest on the scene are The Body Shop’s Instaglow CC Creams (hit stores on May 17th overseas – not sure about USA as yet.) ¬†

Designed to even skin tone, temper shine, minimize pores, soothe (with Aloe Vera), moisturize (with Marula Oil, for a purported 24 hours) AND illuminate, these little guys pack quite a punch.  They also happen to boast an SPF of 20PA+++ (future signs of aging can take a hike, thanks.)

The shades include:

  • Bright Glow – Light skin, white pigment with purple pearl
  • Peachy Glow – Light to medium skin (might be nice for circles?)
  • Warm Glow – Dark skin, bronzed brown with golden pearl

ReallyRee did a great review and shared some nice swatches, so definitely check it out – what I like is that there doesn’t *seem* to be perceptible shimmer… ¬†Glow sans glitter is the way I like to go, personally!

These aren’t meant to be full coverage by any stretch…but alone, or paired with other color cosmetics, these definitely appear to give you a boost…and who doesn’t love THAT idea?! ¬†Not too many Body Shops near me but I will absolutely drop in and check them out when I come across one! ¬†

Kat Von D Shade + Light

I just saw this new Shade + Light Contour Palette by Kat Von D. ¬†It isn’t surprising that companies are tying new products in to the massive trend that is contouring (I’ve written about the topic many times!) See the word “contour” and suddenly a palette with varying tones of brown, taupe or auburn, paired with some brighter, highlighting tones are “contouring.” (Should I put in the “lol” I am thinking?!) ūüėČ

But no matter what the palette is called, or what trend it plays to, it’s always nice to have a selection to choose from – one product, many uses. ¬†We LOVE that!

This palette features a trio of quads – Neutral, Cool, and Warm, along with a handy guide!

  1. 3 x 0.08 oz Base shades in Laetus (creamy nude), Lazarus (cool taupe), Ludwin (peachy bronze)
  2. 3 x 0.04 oz Contour shades in Samael (dusty fawn), Saleos (smoky brown), Succubus (rich rust)
  3. 3 x 0.04 oz Define shades in Solas (espresso brown), Shax (jet black), Sytry (chocolate brown)
  4. 3 x 0.04 oz Highlight shades in Lucius (soft beige), Liberatus (pinkish ivory), Latinus (golden bisque)
  5. Step-by-step contouring guide

Per Sephora:

Transform your eyes through the art of contouring. After tapping into makeup pro secrets, Kat Von D created this first-of-its-kind eye shadow palette. It’s specially-designed for eye contouring, a groundbreaking technique once used only by beauty experts to define and enhance eyes.

I think the colors are great and, again, always nice to have a variety of options. ¬†Keep in mind (as I’m sure you already know), you are never limited to the pairings palettes offer – mix them up and play around! ¬†Warms and Cools and Neutrals can look fabulous together, and so long as you have varying intensities (light, mid and dark), you can contour so as you please!¬†

Stila Perfectly Poreless

Stila has just introduced a Perfectly Poreless Putty¬†just in time for summer! ¬†The product features a “unique moldable texture” which helps to give the skin an airbrushed perfection… ¬†The former calls to mind the¬†“bouncy” touch of many Asian products on the market. ¬†The latter claim reminds me of the plethora of other “perfectors” out there… ¬†But why not another one!?

The nice thing is that this has a variety of shades, much like a foundation would. ¬†Some “putties” are only offered in translucent, so I like that this “beyond foundation” compact does have some color to it…and not in only one tone.

There are rather a few hard-to-pronounce¬†names¬†in the ingredient list (it isn’t quite as long as it appears, fortunately – multiple shades are listed), but at least the ingredients ARE listed (drives me BONKERS when they aren’t!) ¬†So, thank you, Stila, for that. ¬†I steer clear of Lauroyl Lysine myself because it can clog pores, at least for me! ¬†

Too Faced Born This Way

The Lady Gaga reference is not lost on us…nor the long-standing Maybelline “born with it” one. ¬†I feel like these topical “filters” are proliferating the market these days (see: Smashbox Photo Filter, and Deciem Photography Fluid 12%.) ¬†Good thing for us, I suppose (though then aren’t standards that much higher? ¬†I wonder… ¬†I was always afraid to be the kind of girl who would be a different person when I washed my face at night…hence my barely-there preference!) ¬†

Arriving on June 15th, Too Faced‘s Born This Way promises “undetectable coverage.” ¬†So in effect, it’s your-skin-but-better in a bottle…and no one will be the wiser when you’re wearing it.

I couldn’t say whether it holds true to its claims but if you purchase anything on the site, you’ll get a free sample...in advance of it coming out, which is always fun (nice idea, Too Faced!) ūüėÄ So if you do need anything from the brand, snag it now! ¬†
