Korean Skincare At Target – January 2017

I always get excited when I hear US retailers are expanding their overseas brands – especially stores like Target, which tend to be EVERYwhere (and therefore more easily accessible.)

I’ve been droning on about the benefits of Asian skincare for – literally – decades.  I wrote a thesis surrounding the topic back in 1999, to “date” myself.  It wasn’t until the last two years or so that I’ve really seen it take off…but I can assure you, I’m THRILLED, as it makes tracking such products down a LOT easier.

You can certainly find your share at Ulta (for another major retailer) and I’ve seen Asian concepts rolling out from US and European brands at mass market retailers, such as CVS and Walgreens – so the types of products (think sheet masks, cushions, essence waters etc) have become more available to the masses in general.  But to have actual Asian brands carried in the US is an awesome affair.

Musingsofamuse posted here to mention a few of the items hitting shelves later this month.  Mizon is an incredibly well-featured brand (for good reason too – the products live up to the hype!) so I’m pretty psyched to see it among the ranks.  She’s provided the following list (which you can see by clicking her link in the text above as well) along with mention of Peach & Lily founder Alicia Yoon, responsible for this roll-out:

  • Aprilskin Deep Cleaning Facial Cleanser $7
  • Ariul Sheet Mask Skin Texture Improvement Facial Mask Treatment $20
  • Caolion Cream Deep Cleaning Facial Mask Treatment $26
  • Caolion Cream Pore Minimizing Facial Mask Treatment $20
  • Caolion Cream Skin Texture Improvement Facial Mask Treatment $23
  • Caolion Stick Moisturizing Facial Moisturizer $16
  • Lagom Gel Basic Cleansing Facial Cleanser $17
  • Lagom Spray Skin Texture Improvement Facial Tone $21
  • Mizon Snail Repair Eye $22
  • Mizon Snail Repair Cream $38
  • Mizon Face Masks $3.50 Each
  • Twenty Four Seven Cosmetic Highlighter White $22
  • Twenty Four Seven Lipstick Medium $29

I look forward to seeing these in-store in the next few weeks.  Definitely refreshing…and incredibly good for your beau.  And that’s the thing, really…the sooner in life you start, the better off you are.  In skincare – as with many things – preventative and proactive care is the BEST kind.

Urban Decay Prime Time For Holiday

Newness from Urban Decay *possibly* in time for the Holiday (supposedly available from Belk.com, but I don’t see any of these listed as yet.)  Otherwise, they are launching on urbandecay.com January 1st.

It isn’t just one product, though, or one kind of product.  UD is releasing five new primers. Yes, five. (Once again, my inner ballroom-dance-competitor-self is wondering why they’ve arrived so long after I stopped competing!)

The five, which will retail for $34 each, include:

1. Optical Illusion – Designed to blur flaws, reduce fine lines, minimize pores, smooth skin
2. Bright & Tight – Aims to provide brighter, firmer skin
3. De-Slick – As with their other De-Slicks, designed to absorb and minimize shine, and to make your makeup last loner
4. Self-Adjusting– A color-correcting formulation with encapsulated pigments that adjust to your personal skin tone
5. Urban Defense – A translucent, SPF 30 sunscreen base

They do already have quite a lineup of setting sprays, as well as eyeshadow primer – all which seem to manage rave reviews – but I think these will do rather well as a natural expansion for them.  Thoughts?

Spring 2016 – Bobbi Brown Skin Nourishing Glow

Bobbi Brown’s Bobbi Brown Skin Nourishing Glow Foundation will be launching during the end of 2015, and in the first two months of 2016 – in December, it rolls out to Japan.  In January, the USA, and in February, Europe.

The product is a “hybrid cream foundation” designed for dry and  normal skin types – it is both emollient and lightweight, and promises to diminish lines and wrinkles, as well as leave you luminous.

Apparently it also manages to give a firmer, lifted look, and promote natural collagen by way of “six unique peptides technology.”

The finish is soft matte, and skin is left soothes and moisturized – that’s a lovely combination, if you ask me!

The must-have of the season: Dual-Intensity Eyeshadow in a sumptuous, versatile spectrum that can be applied dry for a sophisticated sheer effect, or wet for a dramatic, high-shine finish.”

Maybelline Baby Lips Balm & Blush

So I remember writing about the Maybelline Bay Skin Instant Flush, and these Balm & Blush pops, launching in January 2016, don’t actually appear to be much of a departure.  I actually liked the lil’ Flush-ies, and they could very well be used on the lips as well I suppose.  In that case, I sort of feel like this is the same thing, only being marketed as something new, and with a dual use.

I like the Baby Lips balm as it is and hope they don’t move away from the traditional, twist up packaging – while these packages are intended to ergonomically jam with your hands, I still feel they are bulky and awkward.

I also feel like they are so sheer and glossy that the color won’t adhere very long (dewy is great, but I don’t have the impression these are long wear.)

So…all that said, I’m curious if these are vastly different and worth the buy or, tiny they may be, too cumbersome to bother with.  For someone who stores hers in her sports bra, I’m not sure these are suited for me!

Winter 2015 – Airspray

You read that correctly – Airspray.  I am certain there are other non-alcohol hairspray formulas on the market, but they aren’t spoken about much. Given the 2010+ cosmetic and hair markets’ hyper vigilance, I’m surprised by that.

I am therefore thrilled to see a prominent mass market brand come out with one – alcohol can be incredibly drying, causing the hair to become brittle and frazzled looking.  Combine that with the upcoming cold air (for those of us with winter)?  N.G..  No good!

In January Pantene will launch this no-alcohol-but-still-holds spray – definitely looking forward to hearing reviews and seeing some test runs!

Spring 2016 – Lancome

The Lancome Spring 2016 Collection is about as Springtime as it gets.  Pairing lighthearted, modern, and girly packaging with fresh, bright color, the line sure to have you pining for singing birds and blooming buds (if not sugary bonbons to boot!)

Spring 2016 – Wet ‘N’ Wild

For a January launch, Wet ‘n’ Wild will be coming out with a Dual Ended Contour Stick (not so unlike the many out there, starting with Nyx) as well as a click pen (Concealer? Highlighter? Not sure.)

While it feels late in the game for this kind of thing, it’s nice to have a less pricey option!

The Photofocus All Day Wear setting spray is also on it’s way, to add to the many such offerings in the market.  I’m not totally clear about the timer markings on the cap… Hmmm…
