Juice Beauty Stem Cellular Exfoliating Peel Spray

I do my best to age as gracefully as possible – we are, of course, at the mercy of our genes to some extent, but there’s a lot to be said for being proactive.

I was fortunate that my mother always has a skincare “routine” – she never went to bed with makeup on, she always washed her face, she generally had more than one or two creams, serums, or oils that she’d apply. . .  I not only watched her, and the various steps she took to care for her skin, but I often asked questions and snooped around her products.

I was interested in skincare at a really young age, so that helped too.  It wasn’t about making myself “beautiful” per se, or thinking I could one day cheat the clock.  It was more about doing for my skin what I did for my body.  I exercised, I ate healthy foods, I tried to get a good amount of sleep… So why would I try to take care of all my organs and muscles and skip the outer layers?

My mother always said that there’s no sense trying to “cover up” – “starting with the right canvas,” she (rightly) advised, was vital.  Exfoliation, for one, is a great way to prep and smooth that canvas – it has to be done thoughtfully, of course, and without too much aggression (no one needs red, burned, or damaged skin!)  When done properly, you can revive and maintain a lit-from-within glow, and anything you care to put on top of it will both absorb better, and appear more seamless.

I recently read about Juice Beauty’s Stem Cellular Exfoliating Peel Spray – traditionally peels are applied with pads, from droppers, by dermatologists etc… .  But this is a little bit innovative in the sense that you can mist it on at home and have immediate results.

Per Juicebeauty.com:

Benefits

  • Visibly resurfaces with gentle plant-derived skin exfoliant.
  • Replenishes, restores and renews with a proprietary blend of fruit stem cells which have been infused into an organic resveratrol-rich grapeseed base.
  • Improves skin luminosity with Vitamin C.
  • Visibly brightens with ascorbic acid and licorice root extract.
  • Soothes with cucumber extract & organic aloe.

If you are using retinoid acid of any kind, or other AHAs or BHAs, you might want to avoid combining (as the review above, it can be a little (or a lot!) irritating.)  The spray does feature soothing additives in the way of aloe and cucumber, but it’s still possible to overdo.

I love the ease of this application of this skin-smoothing peel, and have heard a lot of great things about Juice Beauty over the years.  Eager to try it? Sounds like a wonderful addition to a skincare routine. and one I might check out myself!

Multi-Tasking Hydrating Mists

I’ve stocked up on a ton of facial mists myself over the years, usually finding them at Asian markets, Asian brands on eBay, or in New-York-City style pharmacies (think Evian, Avene, La Roche Posay…now FAR more accessible!)

Many mists these days, though, aren’t just for cooling, refreshing, or soothing.  Nowadays they are designed as much to protect you from the elements as they are for instant, feeling great at the time.

Garnier’s Moisture Bomb Multi Protection Hydrating Mist (that’s a mouthful!) protects the skin from UV pollution and oxidation, boasts an SPF of 30, and hydrates with a “lighter than air” feel – a nice addition to refreshing, don’t you think?  It isn’t here in the USA as far as I can tell…but you can find it in the UK at Boots, for one.  For a review, you can check out ReallyRee’s here.

For another multi-tasking variation on mists,Wander’s Glow Getter Mist promises non-comedogenic moisturizing, antibacterial soothing and healing, plus a radiant , dullness-busting, dewiness.  Yep, this rose-scented spray actually serves as a bit of a highlighter, how about that?  So not only do you feel refreshed, but you most certainly look it (provided you are wanting that all-over-glow it provides – with or without makeup underneath. Oilier skin types may not, but I haven’t seen too many reviews just yet to determine that!)

Last but definitely not least (since the brand has quite a cult following already for its masks!) is GlamGlow’s Glowsetter setting spray.  Per Sephora’s description: “This instant makeup finisher is infused with TEAOXI® complex (green tea, white tea, and red tea) paired with charged waters and caffeine to hydrate, energize, and smooth in a weightless fine mist. Inspired by Hollywood skin—always sexy, never shiny—this setting spray is the perfect makeup companion, finishing your look with a soft, cloud-like mist so your glow goes everywhere with you, no matter what.” Fan of the brand?  Eager to try it?

Spring 2017 – YSL Touche Eclat Le Cushion

Ever building on the Touche Eclat empire, YSL will be launching the coveted glow-getting formula in a new format for Spring 2017.  Yep, you guessed it…a cushion.  LE Cushion, to be exact. 😉 The product will be offered in 7 shades designed to enhance radiance with natural coverage.

In addition to that exciting news, the Company is also brining in three Touch Eclat Glow Shots, a highlighter boasting the hefty promise of a 10-hour strobe effect AND ultra hydration, via hyaluronic acid, vitamin E, and Ruscus.  Glow Shots will come in 3 shades:

  • No.1 Daylight – Create a reflective, mirror effect (light skin tones)
  • No.2 Sunrise – Create a rosy glow (light skin tones)
  • No.3 Sunset –  Create a healthy glow (medium to dark skin tones)

And…one more dashing add…the YSL Touche Eclat White, Limited Edition.  I’m already chomping at the bit for this one because a “porcelain effect” is like music to my goth-y ears… It can be used for adding a beautiful sheen, or for more extreme strobe and contour effects.

Holiday 2016 – Lime Crime Diamond Crushers

Wait…WHaAaaAT!?  Where were THESE when I was competitively Ballroom Dancing, dang it?!

These are the PERFECT, iridescent light catchers (and I’m highly irritated that they’ve come out now…several years too late!)  The names are as sassy as the shades, and I love that they (along with many other companies) are following suit of such brands as Colour Pop and showing swatches on a variety of skin tones.  *LOVE*

STRIP

FLUKE. . .

I can’t well wear them to the dojo (lest my partner’s gi light up like a Christmas ball) but…I hope other people indulge in the high-wattage glow!

The Diamond Crushers are meant to layer over lip color, but I’m sure you could use them on your own.  You could also very likely get creative (because…why not?) and use them to reflect light to / from other areas.  Eye gloss, anyone?

Autumn / Winter 2016 – MAC In The Spotlight

To follow up on my earlier post

Chicprofile’s got more detail (which you will definitely want to see!) regarding not only the updated Strobes…but the larger Collection.

Check out her post for more details…

Autumn / Winter 2016 – MAC Redlite Strobe

MAC Strobe Cream is definitely one of those cult, “must-have,” go to products in the beauty world – it’s been used backstage at Runway shows religiously since it’s launch, and very likely will continue to be one of those fail-safe, backup glow-getters ad infinitum.

It took a while but MAC finally decided to expand on the product – there were posts about it months ago, but given that it is set to launch this November (for Autumn / Winter 2016/17, and indeed when this post is scheduled for), we’ve got more to say about it now.

The one I was always most interested in was Redlite – maybe it’s the vamp in me, maybe it’s that the red lends itself to flushing cheeks.  Either way, I was psyched to see a review that focused on this shade in particular.  There will be others, not to worry if red is not your hue.  It total, the selection will be:

  • Silverlite
  • Peachlite
  • Redlite
  • Goldlite
  • Pinklite (a rename of the original)

These definitely are shade shifters, and that’s one of the reasons I love them.  They don’t appear to be glittery or garish, they just add a cool (or warm!) sheen to the skin, giving you a hyped-up highlight instead of the same old, same old.

Excited?

Gothiness – Can I Live Here?!

I didn’t care for the acting in Sleepy Hollow – I have to get that out of the way.  But I don’t watch Tim Burton movies for the acting.  His decadently dreary visuals simply light my heart aglow, especially when they lean Autumnal (to my gothic heart, it seems his lenses are so seasonally tinted – perpetually, much to my joy!)

His eerie, throw-back town, cloaked in lowly fog and Samhain-style mise-en-scene is so my speed it’s ridiculous.  The average human being, I daresay, seems to possess such desires as going to the beach, baking beneath a blindingly hot ball of fire. . . They like pop stars and malls and large gatherings of people…  And there I sit – and always HAVE sat – with a heart yearning for the deep.  For the drumming of the earth, the black of the night, the impossibly-incandescent burn of the moon and stars.

I’m scarcely morbid, and find myself often mistaken for a social butterfly.  No.  Nooo.  I’m more like the little black bat flitting around at Dusk.  The Morticia in the corner, carefully contemplating, and reveling in the shadows. While not so evident at this stage in my life, at least I’m not accused of loving pink – ah yes, at least that is obvious enough!

Tim Burton’s quirky characters, singularly macabre and always intriguing, enchanted me from the get-go – Each one more peculiar than the next, and ever placed in spectacularly vampish settings.

I don’t want to live in a City, my feet falling on hard concrete and my gaze stifled by towering man-made constructions.  I don’t need to be in the center of things, encompassed by busy streets and bustling storefronts.  Sure, I enjoy not being completely isolated – it’s nice to have some manner of life around!  But I’d much prefer those ghostly streets, with their spectral, smokey vapor and stormy skies… A  few lit Jack-O-Lanterns would be enough to brighten the mood for me. . .

Too Faced Sweet Peach Glow Update

Jerrod Blandino of Too Faced Cosmetics finally posted a pix of the Sweet Peach shenanigans – long awaited for many.  For me, the more natural, the better – I don’t mind sheen, so long as it isn’t glittery.  Much that I adore the later, when you reach a certain point in life, you don’t want the “glow” to be as obvious…

The newbie is available in December, meaning you can stave off a frosty, icy gleam with something a tad more Spring-like.  Nothing wrong with a little warmth amidst the snow.

The “Otherworldly” Glow Getter

Highlighters have absolutely proliferated the market…I’ve gone on about it plenty, and so have most beauty blogs.  And fashion sites. And publications. It’s a trend that hasn’t gone away, and probably will always find a place no matter the changing tides (yes, even when matte is the end all be all!)

Ethereal is ALWAYS in, but galactic is a whole other thing… It is definitely less wearable, but somehow still as appealing to most eyes (and wallets!) simply because of its novelty and “otherworldliness.”  I mean, who doesn’t want some kind of gleam somewhere?  It’s chic to sport an angelic sheen!  In the case of Milk Makeup’s Holographic Stick, though, it IS more extraterrestrial.

I’ve seen a bunch of posts out there but BeautyByKelsey shared one of the best swatches of this stick, as well as Anastasia’s Moonchild palette, Kat Von D’s Eyeshadow, Pat McGrath’s 003 highlighter (which was a quickly snatched-up cult item when it came out some months ago.)  It was nice to see it here, as other posts didn’t quite get the “on-skin, actual” look across.  Not to mention, if you really want to go full-bore, you have a nice collection of space-age products and hues to choose from!

There’s a definite lilac sheen going on here – it does NOT (hallelujah!) appear to be glittery or shimmery at all. Fear not, for those of you for whom glitter is your thing – this will still command some attention when on your skin (at least from someone else’s rods and cones!)

Not for the faint of heart, but those who want to stand apart. And glow while they’re at it.
