Illamasqua – SOPHIE Anti-Bullying Campaign

If there is one thing I don’t like to do, it’s engage in political diatribe, or proselytize my own views.  While I’m not opposed to important discussions, I have found that one or the other can often turn out heatedly, but generally not with good resolve. I try to keep my opinions about such things to myself, and simply listen when others care to share (or ignore the vehement postings if I must.)

That said, I am really big on anti-bullying, and because I work with children in Marital Arts, I like to encourage education about what seems to be more and more prevalent these days. Having been the subject of several forms of abuse from partners in my past, I can safely say it is a topic that some have a hard time speaking up about, particularly as the victim.  Bullying in and of itself is a very primal act…and one you might expect humans would have the wherewithal to override.  While dominance is oft exerted in the animal kingdom, I feel that the deliberate taunting is something human beings have added to the mix. 

I like that Illamasqua – a brand that stands apart in a multitude of ways – is so outwardly supporting this cause.  I can’t say that I was outrageously divergent aesthetically, but I got to a point where I was enough so, that I got teased, talked about, harassed too… That wasn’t the “abuse” in my own life so much, but it was pretty terrible.  While I managed to sidestep most of it (mainly I was distracted by worse!) I understand what it’s like.

Illamasqua has been honoring the memory of Sophie, a young lady who was the horrifying subject of bullying gone to the extreme, since her passing in 2007.  Each November they run a campaign to spread the word, and to take proceeds and donate them to a worthy cause. 

I have no affiliation with this company in any way, and in fact learned about Sophie some years ago through them.  But again, I respectfully share because it’s important that no one is alone in their suffering.  

Pantone Universe and Sephora – 2016 Colors Of The Year

As you may have seen, Sephora and Pantone have collectively announced the new Color(s) Of The Year – Rose Quartz and Serenity will be offered in a range of finishes beginning in December for a limited time.

The colors read height of Spring to me, but then one could always go for the wintery-pastel-snow-bunny look too! It is always okay to lighten the mood, as far as I am concerned, and these two hues are about as bright and happy as they get!

Maybelline Winter Delight Baby Lips

Screen Shot 2015-10-12 at 9.42.28 AMI don’t really wear lipstick… I’m a balm kind of girl!  When Maybelline’s Baby Lips came out, I snatched up a few in cherry…and I have been buying them since.

Some of you may have seen that a few new Autumn / Winter editions, included in Maybelline’s “Winter Delight” Collection have been spotted – some in the UK, at Superdrug, and in the USA, at a Bed, Bath & Beyond.  

When I read “Sugar Cookie” and “Sweet Apple” I got a little jealous.  There is also a “Hot Cocoa” (omg, yum!) at Superdrug apparently as an exclusive, and a “Mint Candy.”

There also appear to be some Dr. Rescue nail products, but I haven’t found better info yet!

I recently moved and there isn’t a Bed, Bath & Beyond + Harmon nearby (insert disgruntled look!) so it isn’t as likely I will find them here.  But..that won’t stop me from snooping!!!  😉

The main Dolce image felt rather vibrant to me…and not nearly as “red” as I anticipated – I was expecting to see something less magenta, perhaps? It is still rather striking.  That said, I saw a few more images on BritishBeautyBlogger…which had me a bit perplexed.

It looks a lot less OOMPH-ie in the tube in a true photo (though let’s be fair, photos and colors are always tricky to judge on a screen.)


I’m thinking to myself…it really wouldn’t matter if Sophia was wearing it and it WASN’T as bold as the ad, now would it?  She’s so gorgeous she could wear a 99 cent lippie and be red-carpet ready no matter!

I’m curious to see more swatches of it – I actually think the Dolce lipsticks, while perhaps less “go-to” than other brands – are pretty fabulous – I’ve not seen a color that wasn’t as yet.  Worth checking out…if you are a Sophia-diva fan…or you just love your lippies!

Oui, La Vie En Rose, L’Oreal!

I was delighted to see these beautiful Collection Exclusive “Vie En Rose” lippies – the shades are rather Spring in feeling (at least to my eye), despite officially launching in autumnal October!  It is more apparent, perhaps, when looking at the tubes side by side, and swatched photos (thanks to Britishbeautyblogger.)

There are five shades (currently just four on – these include:

These look very “happy” and uplifting – not exactly what I’d picture for Fall, but why not, I suppose.  C’est La Vie En Rose, after all.

Urban Decay Moondust Exclusives

I am eager to see swatches (love that the site offers a video!)
