You know how trends go…they generally hit the mainstream and go through countless innovations and iterations until they are exhausted. Cushions are a format that many have taken to, though, and given the popularity of multi-use single products (whether with respect to format, such as palettes, duo splits etc; or formulation, such as concealer and primer, or moisturizer and foundation etc), it makes sense that someone would come out with a half and half cushion.
Physicians Formula Mineral Wear Cushion acts as a color corrector, and a primer in one – the color splits offered include a green and yellow (a traditional pairing) and a peach with lavender.
Of the four, lavender is always the color I’d use the least – it works really well for brightening on sallow skin, but I actually LIKE the yellow undertones in my own. Peach often comes in handy too, to brighten dark patches and circles (I guess it’s fair to say I wish there was a peach with yellow combination…)
As for yellow and green, yellow often can stand in place of green, because it does calm redness a bit, and definitely helps to brighten and even skintone. Green is a shade you do have to use with a gentle hand because it can become too cooling and “show” more so than a yellow might.
In any case, I love the idea… These boast an SPF 20, which is always nice to have, and they are non-comedogenic (something I make a point to find on the label!)
These snappy Quick Trik Sticks showed up in a post I read a while back…but I hadn’t seen much more about them since. Runways are always a great place to snoop for new trends and products (clothing, cosmetics, and even skincare) – backstage photos often will offer a sneak peek or five!
These contouring, highlighting, blushing, bronzing duos are launching this July and August, so I am sure there will be more coverage in the next few weeks. In the meantime, Chicprofile shared a more comprehensive list of shades, info and photos:

There are a TON of sticks like this on the market so really it’s a take-your-pick scenario – these sound like they will have a gleaming finish with a touch of sparkle. For those of you that want to stay more subdued, and less high-sheen, fear not…you have a plethora of options!
I posted about these duos already, but here’s an update with swatches from BudgetBeauty Blog if you are interested in seeing how they look on the skin, and hearing some comments about wear!
More photos in her post!
I have to laugh… “Insta-fix.” Wouldn’t THAT be nice!? *LOL*
I haven’t actually seen this Photoready Duo elsewhere, so many thanks to BudgetBeautyBlog for sharing the spot. I prefer to see things in advance of them coming out because then I have time to determine whether I really need it…or just that I love the idea (and my savings) more. 😉
Check out her link above for a photo-heavy post!
NARS has always been a favorite of mine. I don’t really wear much makeup and never have…but for performances on ice, on stage, or in the ballroom, these products ALWAYS held up. In other words, the pigments are lasting, and the products are of a beautiful quality, delivering what they intend to.
The Summer Collection features fun and cheeky packaging, designed with Konstantin Kakanias’ contempo-style art. Modern, happy, definitely that Summer vibe…
The 10-piece Collection (check out swatches and reviews from Temptalia!) will be available in just a few days on the 15th of April at NARS Boutiques, and then at Sephora beginning on May 1 (always useful because many of us will look for a new Collection in-store that hasn’t yet rolled out! Saves the disappointment! 😉 )
The Collection will include the following (thank you to http://www.musingsofamuse.com for the color descriptions!)
NARS Lip Cover:
- Overheated (Deep Dusky Rose)
- Do Not Disturb (Vivid Orange-Red)
- Get Dirty (Desert Rose)
- Members Only (Crimson)
NARS Dual-Intensity Eyeshadow
- Deep End (Shimmering Teal-Green)
- Tan Lines (Rich Hazelnut)

So this cutie little pair – BareMinerals Light Dimensional Translucent Powder Duo – reminds me a lot of Hourglass and Elf’s Ambient Powders. What I love about this one, though, is that one half is intended to remove the not-so-great-glow, while the other is designed to promote an ethereal one. Double trouble – I like it.
The baked, “luxurious” powders are made to vanish on all skin tones, while at the same time blurring imperfections and adding luminosity. As an athlete, having two products in one is super helpful, but also I love that these are designed to be imperceptible – they create a healthy, happy complexion withOUT being overbearing – win!
The “Matte” side helps to absorb oil (which often leaves a less than desirable greasy sheen), while “Glow” provides a rose-gold-infused highlight for any area you want to add a bit-o-strobe.
The brush is uniquely dual sided, allowing for the best application while removing oil, and adding your gleam – pretty snazzy, if you ask me! 🙂
This “set” includes:
- 0.31-oz Invisible Light Transulcent Powder Duo
- Dual Finish Blush & Contour Brush
It is currently on sale for $36.36 (not sure how long that goes!)
I feel like everywhere I turn these days, there is a new version of a contour product or palette out… Maybelline will be coming out with yet another one themselves – called the Master Contour V Shape Duo Stick, the uber-chubby stick is meant to make your Life easier as far as your shading goes.
As I looked at the image, I have to say I wasn’t convinced it would necessarily be easier – awesome that to shades are combined but in my experience, dual-sided shades, paired flush together as these are, tend to blend without you intending to mix them!
Interestingly, BritishBeautyBlogger agreed, so do read her review if you are interested (link as above.) What do you think about the double-sided sticks?
