Sephora Micellar Cleansing Water & Milk

Cleansing skin is one of the most important steps in a skincare routine…and the one that a lot of people flub.  Regimes overseas (I live in the USA) has always captured my attention because they are often so impeccably executed.  There are far more than one or two steps – which I’ve found is one too many for most – and it shows.  A cleansing wipe works in a pinch but – hate to break it to you – is not necessarily getting much off your skin at night.

Cleansing waters have become more mainstream in our markets in the last two years or so (I say, hallelujah!) Most have been pretty basic in formulation – for dry skin, oily skin, maybe a waterproof remover.  But until now we’ve not seen as many varieties (such as mattifying ones, for example.)

Well, Sephora decided to up the game and has released a line of four Micellar Cleansing Water & Milks each catering to a different skin type.

Per Sephora:

Rose Micellar Cleansing Milk: Smooth and silky, this cleanser is also ultra-moisturizing and Brightening.

Coconut Water Micellar Cleansing Milk: This smooth cleanser soothes and relaxes the complexion.

Green Tea Micellar Cleansing Water: This light and refreshing cleanser mattifies and fights blemishes without the use of harsh ingredients.

In a use test on 30 volunteers after the 1st use:
– 90% said that the micellar cleansing water efficiently cleanses the face and eyes
– 97% said that skin is mattified

Charcoal Micellar Cleansing Water: Purifies and detoxifies leaving skin feeling fresh.

In a use test on 32 volunteers after the 1st use:
– 91% said that the micellar cleansing water efficiently cleanses the face and eyes
– 94% of women said that the micellar cleansing water detoxifies skin

Summer 2016 – L’Oreal Masks

I’m a little bit nutty about taking care of my skin – it’s one of those things that you have to be incredibly proactive about (as in, start early in life!)  It will make a difference if you start to baby your skin early on in life – not only because it becomes an engrained habit, but because you have protected it so well from nature’s aggressors over time.

I’ve always like L’Oreal as a brand – not so much because it is an absolute monster of a company, but because that as a giant in the industry, it has the resources to do solid research and testing – great R&D results in products that actually DO what they say they will…and all the L’Oreal products I have tried, have delivered.

Their L’Oreal drugstore line is on the moderate to higher end where pricing is concerned, but it also won’t break the bank (La Mer, anyone) so it makes loving your skin less damaging to your wallet.

The newest items, coming this Summer, include a variety of masks – always a fun way to de-stress, and pamper your epidermis.  There will be three formulations available:

  • Exfoliate & Refine Pores  3 Pure Clays + Red Algae
  • Purify & Mattify –  3 Pure Clays + Eucalyptus
  • Detox & Brighten –  3 Pure Clays + Charcoal

Per BudgetBeautyBlog, one of the few places posting the news, these creamy , 10 minute masks combine:
  1. Kaolinite (to cleanse & exfoliate)
  2. Montmorillonite (absorb oil)
  3. Rhassoul (rich in minerals to condition & hydrate)
I’m kind of excited to see these.  I don’t really need another mask, but I always get excited about new products. 🙂  Are you looking forward to checking these out?

EatPops!

I think this is a wonderful idea…

I DESPISE drinking my calories.

There! I said it.

Yes, people often scoff when I say that…  Maybe it’s because they are so beholden to those end-all-be-all detox shakes they are having, or maybe the word “calorie” is what nudges them off the edge…  Whatever the case may be I will say it a thousand times…I despise drinking my calories.

Hate is a strong word – I rarely use it, if at all – so I’m using “despise” instead.  It’s a vehement despise, though!

As I have gotten older, I simply have to watch what I eat in order to maintain a certain level of fitness performance, athleticism, health, emotional well-being, and…weight.  Gone are the days that I can drink my hot chocolates with whipped cream, smoothies with my breakfast, and ingurgitate bags of steamed rice along with a glass of juice.  The flat-out reality of it is that I’ve needed to reduce my caloric intake over the years, as well as tweak my fitness routine – if I don’t, that’s okay, but I will gain weight, and will get very depressed.  I know myself that well.

Smoothies were something I’d enjoy often growing up – there was nothing more delicious than fresh, ripe fruit, blended with some ice, maybe some yogurt or milk.  Before training, after…whenever!

I don’t count my calories – let me be clear on that.  Having had two severe eating disorders in the past (anorexia and exercise bulimia), the propensity to get dangerously rigid is already there.  With that kind of propensity, I need to be more lax in this department.

That said, I am aware of what I eat, and could very likely give you the broad strokes of what I had in a day – I never stuff my face mindlessly, but if I feel like a snack, I have it – I’m clean 95% of the time.

So I saw this snazzy brand – founded back in 2014, and I just love the idea.  EatPops came about because a law student, Sophie Milrom, couldn’t manage to find healthy snacks while studying feverishly in school.  She recognized that fresh juice was prohibitively high-priced, making it a tougher trend to follow for many people interested in cleaner eating and juicing.  She also discovered that freezing juices not only lowered prices to make such conceptions accessible…but also that it extended the shelf life.

What do I love this idea?  Because I DESPISE drinking my calories!  For someone like me, these are ALSO a fabulous option because…I get to CHEW.  I like the sensation of munching on something – I feel more satisfied when I EAT than when I DRINK…so pops is a perfect option!  From 45 to 100 calories for one, you aren’t going to break the bank with these. ❤

I don’t have any retailers near me, but you can purchase these guys online…  Shipping is up to $15 (these are frozen treats!) but it is awesome to have the option!

More of what I love to eat…!

Dermalogica Charcoal Rescue

The benefits of charcoal as a detoxifier are by no means new, but there has been rather a surge in charcoal based skincare over the last few years, and I’ve more recently seen it for haircare as well!

And, while there are a plethora of products out there, it is worth mentioning Dermalogica’s Charcoal Rescue Mask, which appears to be a heavier hitter in the epidermal detox than many others. The mask is formulated with Binchotan Charcoal, derived from the Japanese Ubame Oak Tree – in addition to adsorbing up to 1,000x its own weight in impurities (environmental toxins, sebum etc…), it has also been used to deodorize, purify water, and whiten your pearly teeth. Impressive!

In addition, Dermalogica uses Sulfur in the formulation, known to treat various conditions such as acne, eczema, rosacea, sebaceous dermatitis, and to promote cell turnover.  Brilliant!  Add to that Volcanic ash, sea silt, bamboo extract and alpha hydroxy acids to “further accelerate skin brightening with dual-action exfoliation.” ANDNiacinamide, and Chilean Wild Mint, which ” helps reduce congestion and calm the skin” and refine pores, respectively.

If you have problematic skin at all…this sounds like a serious holy grail (HG) treatment mask – at $46, I know it’s a lot, but I’ve never had a bad experience with Dermalogica’s products.  EVER.
