Magnify The Strengths

I have the great fortune to work with many individuals with disabilities, and to learn alongside their families and those in special education. I have always lived my life believing that kindness is not only valuable…but crucial. I believe that when we have something nice to say, or we recognize something beautiful in another person, that we should speak up.

Working in this community has extended the importance of this even further. There is nothing more wonderful than seeing the face of a child when they suddenly believe in themselves. When we share a kind word and focus on their strengths (often in spite of great adversity) we have the power to illuminate their world. I take that responsibility very seriously, and frankly…I feel it is an honor to be in such a position. As all human beings, they already know where they struggle…they don’t need to be reminded of where they fall short, but rather to see all the things they do well.

No matter who you are, no matter who someone else is…if you have something kind to say...SAY IT. Don’t hold back because a few supportive words could make all the difference in someone’s day…or in their life. We all remember certain compliments we’ve received over the years, and we remember how those comments made us feel. Share that gift with others that they too may recognize their wonderful contributions to the world.

There’s Plenty For All Of Us

I’ve always encouraged people to share whatever positive thoughts come to mind – the world could always use more positivity, and people could always use joyful support.

Give back when you can without expectation – goodness begets the good and really doesn’t need a reason. There’s enough “wonderful” in the Universe for all of us.

There Are Angels Among Us – Seeing Beauty In Life

Yesterday at Barnes and Noble I saw a man wheel (in her wheelchair) a young girl – perhaps 15 – into the checkout line in front of me. I watched him kiss her head, which had been shaven maybe just weeks before. He kissed the enormous s-shaped scars that covered it, and she smiled and spoke sweetly to him.

I caught the gentleman’s eye – her father, I believe – and with a smile I could not contain I said, “she is SO beautiful! Her skin is like a doll’s!” He wheeled her around to see me and I told her the same. She then said, “thank you! You have such beautiful eyes!” in the sweetest voice you could imagine, and one I’ll not forget.

My heart felt so much joy, so much admiration, so much love. . . I couldn’t help but tell her, and was so honored for her kindness in return. Even if only some of us could see them, she wore about her head a glowing halo, and about the rest, a set of wings. After all she must have been through in her short time, she wanted nothing more than to share light with everyone else around her…

I bid them farewell as they finished buying her Anime book, and the man wheeled her out of the store – I knew I’d remember that moment forever.

It doesn’t take much to see the beauty around us, or to cherish the moments we meet precious souls. To touch another life is such a gift – I believe in sharing the positive thoughts we feel inside because you never know how much it may mean to someone else. Perhaps a father who has seen his child suffer as no one should?

There ARE angels among us – maybe right in front of your eyes. Don’t be afraid to encourage them too. Every heart deserves love and light, and to see the beauty in life. If you’re one of the ones who sees through that lens…share it. The world can always use more. ❤️

You ARE Enough.

One of my absolutely FAVORITE things to do is to lift people upto bring some Light to a dark day, JUST as much as a bright one!

There is simply nothing better than seeing a child smile, especially when they had only just wanted to cry… Or a face light up when you share with someone how beautiful they look…or what a great job he or she did…

There’s just nothing better than letting someone know that you love them, appreciate them, that they inspire you…or that you’re proud of them…

I LOVE that.  I love being the one to SHARE that.

You Are Enough

I love to remind people of the GOOD things when they are feeling down…

I love to remind them of how amazing they ARE…because sometimes they forget!

I love to remind them that I’m going to miss them during the day, or that I hope they have a beautiful day to begin with…and that I love to hear their voice…

And OH YES, I am, rest-assured, SINCERE.  I don’t do bs.  Nope.  Not for me!

My father says I am “brutally honest” so if you “don’t want the answer, don’t ask!”  *lol*  He’s right…BUT…

My glasses are rose-and-rainbow colored – I see good in everything.

I see good in everyone.

If I DON’T have something positive to say, chances are, I will keep it to myself!  Most of the time, I’ve got something positive picked out…and…surprise, surprise, I love to share it.  With people I know, people I love, and strangers all the same!

I think MORE people need to share that positive thought they had about someone…

Yes…share it OUT LOUD.

Tell the person in the grocery store line you love their jacket, it looks great!  Tell that little boy wearing the spiderman shirt how awesome it is, and that you love spiderman TOO…because you see he is about to cry…and you really DO love spiderman!  Tell the gorgeous girl, who all the other girls are sneering at, that she has gorgeous hair…because you really think so!

Strong Women

I have an allergy to jealousy, egotism, and negativity – I’m sorry, I was just born that way.  I don’t want to be around it, or partake in it.  I want to share because what’s on my mind is probably “you are amazing,” or “you should be so proud of yourself” (for getting to the gym at ALL, for standing up for yourself, for saying sorry, for competing for the first time…)

We all have moments where we doubt ourselves and feel down.  While self-validation is incredibly important…sometimes we need to HEAR it!  Sometimes that compliment you want to say could be the one that makes ALL the difference to that person that day!  Maybe they’re smiling…but maybe you don’t know that smile has a really bad morning behind it… Maybe the compliment on the tip of your tongue will turn that person’s day around – WHAT a gift!

Don’t be shy… Share the joy.  Share the beautyShare whatever goodness you have – it makes the World glow even brighter, and that helps E V E R Y O N E.

I’ve always got something nice to say…and like it or not, I’m gonna say it!  😀

And when I do, you can be absolutely SURE that it’s sincere…and that I personally considering making YOU smile the best gift in the World.
