Sweatproof Minerals Designed By (And For) Athletes

The concept behind this Company is one near and dear to my athletic, but womanly, heart – products designed for athletes that will stay on, stay true (in color), and don’t cause havoc for your skin.

But…the reviews for this newbie – Sweat Cosmetics – range from terrible, to “not worth it,” to five-star.  It’s a little tricky to tell where this really will average out, but overall the reaction hasn’t been stellar – hopefully that will change (I’m rooting for you, ladies!)

The line is made up of just four products so far – the Translucent Mineral Powder ,  Mineral Foundation with SPF 30, Mineral Illuminator with SPF 30, and the Mineral Bronzer with SPF 30.  I have seen a lot of water-resistant, longer wearing products in the last year or two, which is definitely a-ok by me – I need products that live up to their claims of staying power without making my skin freak out.  But…not all of the offerings out there manage to be a home run in both categories…  Their twist brush also makes life a lot easier, another plus for women on the go.

I love that this was created by five Olympic and pro athletes though – they GET the struggle active women face! 🙂 For many years I wanted my own product line too (not that I was noteworthy as a public sports figure, but I sure as heck have knowledge and experience!)  I was managing the Fragrance section of the Cosmetic Department in NYC in a massive department store, so my exposure to the cosmetics arena at the time was daily.  I was frustrated by the lack of products that could lend a more natural feel, last through rigorous training, and long days.  I’m seeing more of it but I still have to rely on random pieces from specific brands – I can’t get all products from the same brand because it doesn’t really exist.

So overall, the idea is wonderful – I’m just not sure these particular formulas have caught on as yet, or that they are delivering quite as they need to…but I really hope that they do, and that more women try them out.  I’m reluctant to switch what I use currently because my formula (my collection of go-to products) really works for me.  I also have my wedding coming up in October and trying to avoid any potential skin woes – product-induced clogged pores, breakouts, acne, whatever! – beforehand!

The reason I personally get it?  HERE!

Summer 2016 – Maybelline Bricks

I’ve only seen this new Bronzer here, and here, so I’m guessing it isn’t coming to the USA right away (usually we have a lag!)  That said, it is very much a summer offering, so we shall see.

I can’t say I’m incredibly surprised by a palette bronzer, per say…or by the “bricks” concept, which Bobbi Brown and others have done for both bronzing and highlighting products.  But it is kind of a new format for Maybelline, so it’s fun to see.

The bronzer pairs matte and shimmer “bricks” for a tan that doesn’t go flat.  Britishbeautyblogger has posted her comments and more images, including swatches, so definitely take a peek.

L’Oreal Cushion De Soleil

Not here in the USA but happy to see this L’Oreal Glam Cushion De Soleil all the same (thanks to msqueenbee617 for posting.)

This would have been a benefit when ballroom dancing for sure – bronze was the way to be, and maintaining the self tan on my face (while also being a skincare nazi!) meant that I had to have products to replenish the “glow” I often (by default) vigorously washed off!

Cushions have been trending like nobody’s business so I do expect we will see this in the USA at some point in future.

Spring / Summer 2016 – Revlon Insta-Fix Update

I posted about these duos already, but here’s an update with swatches from BudgetBeauty Blog if you are interested in seeing how they look on the skin, and hearing some comments about wear!

Summer 2016 – Hourglass Illume Sheer Color Trio

Hourglass seems to be full steam ahead, taking no time to revel in the successes of the various Ambient products (powders and new primers)…

The newest goody, now available on Sephora’s site, is called the Illume Sheer Color Trio.  This multitasking product is designed to “define, brighten, and highlight your face.”  It combines a bronzer, a highlighter, and a just-flushed blush, all in cream-to-satin formulas.

The highlighter claims to add a “luminous glow without heavy glitter or shimmer.”  For me, that’a s HUGE plus – I don’t want to sparkle in the sun…I just want to glow.

All three shades are sheer and buildable, allowing you to achieve youthful, fresh radiance with a completely natural look.

It sounds pretty awesome – $62 is a lot, but if it becomes a holy grail for you, it’s worth it.  Personally, I’d love to snag just the blush shade!

Lorac Tantego

I have to say, this palette is one I would have snatched up in heartbeat when I was dancing. In Ballroom, you HAVE to be bronzed – self tanning is a must-do, and you simply won’t be taken seriously if you don’t.  (In defense of this, since it seems harsh and a wee bit overboard, especially to those of us who are naturally pale, bronzing keeps you from washing out under hot, bright lights!)

Anyway…despite the all over glow we’d have, we still had to do the makeup.  Contouring of course was a big part of it, but touch ups and tan deepening was also part of the gig – this adorable, coming-soon-for-summer palette would have been perfect.

The colors appear to have slightly different finishes, and they vary between warm and cool – thank you for the versatility!  This isn’t out yet but you can always check in on the Lorac Instagram page for further news.

Spring / Summer 2016 – Benefit

So Benefit has a lot of fun stuff coming out in Marc, 2016.  Two of the goodies – boasting those fun and cheeky names we expect from the brand – are Zero Tanlines, and Dew The Hoola.  There isn’t a ton of info out just yet, but BritishBeautyBlogger shared some lovely photos and swatches.  I enjoy being pale myself but a no one ever looks worse with a slight sun-kissed glow!

Zero Tanlines is a “skin tint “ – I’ve seen the new ones from L’oreal in Walgreens, CVS and Rite Aid already.  It washes off, so it isn’t a faux, self tan – it’s more like body makeup, if you will.  The cap of the product is apparently a hula skirt (which honestly I didn’t realize!)  Underneath it – how sassy, Benefit! – is a buffing application sponge for streak-free results.  Personally I’d look for “transfer resistant,” “water resistant” etc with a product like this.  I’m not totally sure if it is any of those things, but most like items in the marketplace are these days.

As for Dew The Hoola, it’s a lightweight, easily applied bronze tint – nothing too heavy, by the looks of it, and no glitter (hallelujah!  LOVE glitter, but not when “natural” is what we are aiming for.)

While they aren’t out until the dawn of Spring, they are fun to announce anyway – a little extra sun during the cold, wintery months to bask beneath!

Spring / Summer 2016 – NARS Hot Sand

More info about the Hot Sand Collection, thanks to ChicProfile! The Collection will be launching in January, 2016 – first in Japan, and then on the 15th internationally.

I can’t say I’m over the moon with these, feeling that they aren’t particularly “new and exciting.”  That said, Laguna and Orgasm are such hot sellers that it makes a lot of sense to pair them up with new shades to ensure more sales – can’t blame them there!  Part of it is that the “Hot Sand” shade feels like it’s too fair for many skin tones.  The Multiple might show up better of the blushes.

The Collection will include the following Limited Edition products:

NARS Illuminating Multiple

  • Hot Sand – shimmering peach champagne

NARS Blush Duo

  • Hot Sand – a shimmering golden peach
  • Orgasm – pink shimmering golden

NARS Blush Bronzer Duo

  • Hot Sand – a shimmering golden peach
  • Laguna – brown matt

NARS Lip Gloss

  • Hot Sand – a shimmering golden sand

NARS Hanamachi Kabuki

  • Kabuki Brush
