Surrounding Yourself With Good People

The people with whom you choose to spend the most time can have a huge impact on your life and well-being…

Look to those who love you for exactly who you are. For they are the ones who will have patience, respect, and understanding when you need it most….and, more importantly, at all times.

Look to those who push you to look deeply within yourself at the things that maybe no longer serve you so well – sometimes it’s hard to face ourselves alone.

Look to those who challenge you to internally and externally step up your game. There are those who will support and encourage you, and remind you of all the “wonderful” you have to offer (and you deserve to be reminded. OFTEN!)

Look to the people who remind you that “failure” means “lesson,” and nothing more. The people who will remind you that have the strength, the courage, and the wherewithal to get up and fight…because you’ve already done it with success so many times before.

And look to those who will not only look for the bright side no matter how grim the circumstance, but who will do everything in their power to BE the “bright” when the lights go out.

Life is full of ups and downs – when we have the right troops in our corner it’s not only easier to weather the storms, but the joys and celebrations are also multiplied many, many fold.

Empath (and Nutrition) Humor – Misophonia…Part I

Frustrating it may be at times, I suffer from Misophonia – that’s just the reality.  I also have more generalized sensitivity to noise and to light – fun stuff in a crazy, overly stimulating world!  I try not to let on too much, but anyone close to me knows how extreme it can be (and it isn’t something I can control.)

I love my heavy metal, and I love light streaming into a room…but sometimes noise and light can be too much, and I either need a much darker “sanctuary” or I need ear plugs.  Or both!  I certainly have endeavored to desensitize over time but it’s just something I’ve had to resign myself to…

But that goddamn microwave beep. . . Microwave tones at ALL…they drive me nuts! And I’m always steaming vegetables, making eggs, or reheating my chicken so it isn’t like I have choice!  Still…there’s always preemptively stopping the countdown so I don’t have to listen to a MULTITUDE of beeps in succession (yes, nails-on-a-chalkboard for this chick!)

It’s NEVER 100% Dark

I loved this image. . .because it – broadly, in essence – is something I feel profoundly.

screen-shot-2016-12-11-at-6-31-10-pm

The light never does go out completely – the Universe still has quite a bit of (illuminated) stardust to go around!

And if ever night seems utterly stygian, you are certain to find starlight in the eyes, and words, and embraces of those you love.  You need only look, and receive.

Summer 2016 – MAC Blue Nectar

I’m not totally sure to whom I can attribute this curious blurb – MAC, of course, but I mean specifically.  I appreciate verbal creativity and find illustrative words a great deal of fun, but I wasn’t as crazy about this one. . . Sorry.

“Within the realm of the rose, a mysterious kingdom of blue ripe with temptation… Court seduction with only the most potent strains of Lipstick–Fixation, Carnivorous, Aphrodisia Invite intrigue with the intoxicating essence of sheer colour in Plushglass. Surrender to instinct, let your Blue Nectar flow.”

Fortunately the colors aren’t quite as contrived as the description!  They aren’t necessarily for the less bold of the group, though – with colors like “Lured In,” Ablaze,” and “Heroine,” you need to be prepared to make a solid statement.

The Collection, per Temptalia, will include the following:

  • Lured In – Mid-tone pastel purple (Amplified)
  • Invite – Intrigue Cool, bright fuchsia (Matte)

Sephora + Pantone Universe Color of the Year 2016 Collection Review

The link below is a reposting of a great post from Beautizine.com.  Not only is it product photo rich, but there are some wonderful swatches.

The palettes contain some lovely, primarily pastel and gentle watercolor shades – both wearable and soft, but also edgy in their own right.

The glosses are also gorgeous, though there I find some less able to translate to daily wear.

As for the lipsticks, those feel too “unreal” for me – they’d work for Lil’ Kim and Lady Gaga, absolutely, but short of being a pop star, the colors there are tough!

My posts related to Pantone and Sephora are here, and here.

Here’s the post!

Spring 2016 – Wet & Wild

More and more Spring is finding its way into mass market retailers this month.  Expect more new from Wet & Wild (you may have already seen a few updates!)

The brand is offering some nice, limited edition interpretations of the Pantone Colors Of The YearRose Quartz and Serenity.  The products are lighthearted, almost angelic in a way, and screaming Springtime by way of their pale, gentle glow.

Wet & Wild will also be coming out with some Ombre Blushes (not common to the mass market scene), as well as new powder highlighter, a pencil highlighter, and brushes (which I have seen in store already.)

Pantone Universe and Sephora – 2016 Colors Of The Year

As you may have seen, Sephora and Pantone have collectively announced the new Color(s) Of The Year – Rose Quartz and Serenity will be offered in a range of finishes beginning in December for a limited time.

The colors read height of Spring to me, but then one could always go for the wintery-pastel-snow-bunny look too! It is always okay to lighten the mood, as far as I am concerned, and these two hues are about as bright and happy as they get!

Per Sephora:

THE EYE PALETTE

Sephora + Pantone Universe Color of the Year Modern Watercolors Eye Palette

The shades in this exclusive 15-shade pan palette are all about pleasing the eye. The shimmer and matte formulas are infused with Vitamin E to nurture lids, while the pastel and bright hues can be worn together in a variety of ways to create a visual masterpiece.

THE LIP GLOSS

Sephora + Pantone Universe Color of the Year Modern Watercolors Lip Gloss Set

In line with its rule-breaking mantra, the six pastel hues in this lip gloss set are anything but understated. A swipe of the melt-on-your-mouth formula instantly delivers rich color and a dose of conditioning hydration. Your lips will look contemporary, smooth, and unexpected.

THE LIPSTICK

Sephora + Pantone Color of the Year Matte Lipstick in Rose Quartz

In 2016, sweet hues take on a bold attitude and these matte lipsticks deliver the drama with full-color payoff. Swipe on the velvety matte texture in Rose Quartz for a femme look that’s not afraid of being unconventional.

Sephora + Pantone Color of the Year Matte Lipstick in Serenity

While this lipstick comes in the same texture and finish as Rose Quartz, this version of the lipstick is even more daring, yet delicate thanks to its Serenity hue. Color it on your lips for a futuristic effect that wows the present.

I am looking forward to seeing swatches (curious about pigmentation!) but I think these hues are such fun.  I also LOVE the ombre packaging – I’m not quite girlie-girl, and I rarely wear such pale shades…but it doesn’t mean I can’t appreciate the colors of a morning May sky… Spring baby, after all! 🙂
