Halloween A La Lime Crime

Lime Crime is known for their offbeat shades, and daring finishes…so really Halloween isn’t a stretch.  Like, at all.

But I love that they make a point of the 31st all the same, and they they go “LE” (limited edition) in honor.  “Bloodmoon”? I do!  (Incidentally, I never – ever – wear lipstick.  But…I bought it, because… #vamp #bloodmoon #batwings. ❤ )

It’s kind of hard to resist – the perfect blackened red, don’t you agree?  Wicked is also spectacular, but I find it more a challenge to find the right dark blood red… Of course then I see Red Velvet and want that too… ❤

It’s perfect for leaving love notes, so I have an excuse to splurge. 😉  (Or at least that’s what my not-so-inner-also-outer Vamp says.)

If you are feeling angelic, you could always go “Moonstone” – fair to say they have all manner of “bold” covered…and in that shade, you wouldn’t be run of the mill “divine!”

Long Live (Mc)Queen

I miss Alexander McQueen – I was so distressed when I learned of his passing some years ago.  McQueen was one of fashion the envelope pushers…who got away with it.  He took shapes and ideas to the next level, stirring the creative possibilities unabashedly.

His models wore headdresses of birds in flight – so real looking that you’d half expect to have one on your shoulder at any moment, vying for a snack…or lock of hair.

Towering, extraterrestrial heels (a word I used prior to seeing this post, but who wouldn’t go there?! I did back then too) – not only bizarre, but downright menacing – strut alongside re-vivified chopine, rounded, snake-snouted booties (a favorite of Ms. Gaga), and biker badassery.

No, he never was for the faint of heart, but I liked that.  He still managed relevancy, amidst the spectacle too, albeit “wearable” for the bold more so than the masses.

A friend recently showed me a clutch covered in skulls and rhinestones…and it reminded me of McQueen right away.  (And anyway – it’s almost Halloween – a perfect time for fearless revelry…and accessories!)

I recalled the bejeweled, bedecked (skull-decked, I should say) knuckle ring clutches he made back when. They are still – not surprisingly – going strong among the quirky, and affluent.

They are essentially wearable art – you couldn’t possibly go unnoticed bearing one of these in your hand.  But then you wouldn’t buy it if you didn’t favor an adventurous path, undaunted by the merrily mundane (casting curious looks ‘ere you go!)

Gothiness – Bisou

I wish I wore lipstick because then I’d go all out poisonous!

I’m thankful, at least, other ladies boldly…flashing fiercely goth grins ‘ere they go…

Fall 2016 – Marc Jacobs Blacquer

Marc Jacobs new Collector’s Edition – launching for Fall – embraces blackness unabashedly.  Black in and of itself is so deliciously dauntless one might even say “THE” blackness.  Ahhh….How gloriously gothic of you, Mr. Jacobs…and in ample time for my favorite day! (#halloween, don’t forget it! 😉 )

The Collection includes:

  • Le Marc Lip Creme Lipstick in Blacquer
  • Highliner Gel Eye Crayon in Taboo
  • Epic Noir Mascara & Gel Eyeliner Collector’s Edition Set

It isn’t for the shy, for sure, but rather those who can go boldly withOUT batting a lash… I personally think it’s brilliant that cosmetic companies aren’t automatically eschewing the less traditionally “wearable.”  Women are more fearless in this day and age, and it isn’t only the Manic Panics of the World who should feel free enough to offer such intrepid shades.

My Pagan heart adores you, Marc.  I like your brazen nerve!

Summer 2016 – MAC Blue Nectar

I’m not totally sure to whom I can attribute this curious blurb – MAC, of course, but I mean specifically.  I appreciate verbal creativity and find illustrative words a great deal of fun, but I wasn’t as crazy about this one. . . Sorry.

“Within the realm of the rose, a mysterious kingdom of blue ripe with temptation… Court seduction with only the most potent strains of Lipstick–Fixation, Carnivorous, Aphrodisia Invite intrigue with the intoxicating essence of sheer colour in Plushglass. Surrender to instinct, let your Blue Nectar flow.”

Fortunately the colors aren’t quite as contrived as the description!  They aren’t necessarily for the less bold of the group, though – with colors like “Lured In,” Ablaze,” and “Heroine,” you need to be prepared to make a solid statement.

The Collection, per Temptalia, will include the following:

  • Lured In – Mid-tone pastel purple (Amplified)

Pat McGrath Phantom 002

I wrote about Pat McGrath’s first “Gold” Collection a while back.  Well she has come out with the second Collection, Phantom 002…and that too has already sold out.

At $240, that’s impressive…though it was also produced in a limited 1,200 units.

Per her site:

“A defiantly decadent 8-piece kit to create underground looks that span the decades. One illegally black liner and a multiuse eye gloss for the ultimate hardcore glamour. Four self-indulgent shades to metallicize your smokey eye. Give black a new life and blitz into the darkness.”

I keep thinking regal birds of paradise – peacock, firebird, golden eagle…

It feels to me like a cross between Studio 54 sequins and heavy metal…!

The kit contains:

  • Gold 002 pigment 0.14 oz
  • Blue 002 pigment 0.14 oz
  • Copper 002 pigment 0.14 oz
  • Fuchsia 002 eye blush 0.14 oz
  • Black 002 eye gloss 0.14 oz
  • Black Caviar gel liner 0.018 oz
  • Blender brush 002
  • Flat brush 002

It’s bold color with smoked edges, so prepare to party…and stun!

MAC x Susanne Bartsch Collection

I have to be honest here…I had NO idea who this was!  But I LOVE MAC and I love their ever-interesting collaborations. After having read the below, it made perfect sense that I didn’t know who this was – I’m admittedly far out of reach of the celebrity scene.

“Since the 1980s, famed nightlife icon Susanne Bartsch has been known for her elaborate, outlandish and extraordinary fêtes for designers, celebrities and partygoers alike. Three decades later, her events continue to attract New York’s beautiful, strange and eccentric. Now, a collaboration that harnesses the unique world of Bartsch into two fantastical false lashes.”

Falsies and extensions have DEFINITELY picked up steam over the last decade – certainly they were out there but having been a competitive Ballroom dancer for many years during the last decade…it’s fair to say they were not as easy to come by in stores!

There is nothing really mild-mannered about these – those who do buy them are likely among the fearless stand-out types (which doesn’t mean if you aren’t that way, there is anything wrong with that!  I’m not sure I could manage these even ON the Ballroom floor where false lashes are so common they are almost a pre-req!)  Given who these are in collaboration with, though, I’d expect nothing less!

The two limited edition lashes are as follows:

MAC Curlicue Lash – $75.00: Swirling and “girly” retro lashes.

MAC On Top Lash  – $75.00: “Wispy waterfall”-look lashes.
