Instant Confidence Stick

So there were a couple of posts about this out there – I hadn’t really internalized that this could be potentially offensive to some, but it seems that it was.  For some, naming the product “Instant Confidence Stick” was not only not expected from Bobbi Brown (generally known to embrace our natural beauty – aging and otherwise), but also because it suggested that we need a product to give us confidence (focusing primarily on our superficial appearance, as it were.)

I didn’t take anything negative, nor controversial, from it so much – they way it reads to me is that if I am having a day that I feel I look as though I need a pick me up (my personal opinion about myself) then this might offer some help.  It doesn’t suggest to me that I am lacking in some way, no beautiful enough, or that without a product(s), I’m somehow sub-par.

I understand – and agree – with the notion that we should love ourselves the way we are.  We should – we are fabulous, damnit!  But that doesn’t mean that if we want to pull ourselves together and present a cleaned-up version of ourselves – all the time, or occasionally – that there is anything wrong with that!

Per Bobbi’s UK site (where it is available):

Bobbi’s magic eraser—instantly blurs the look of fine lines and wrinkles for a smoother, more lineless look. The colourless, breathable and ultra-lightweight formula glides on easily and feels weightless, making it comfortable for all-day wear. Use it to prep skin for seamless makeup application, or to touch up and control shine throughout the day.

Infused with a powerful peptide, the formula helps to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles as soon as you apply. A unique triple suspension complex creates an effective yet breathable blurring layer that helps to smooth and perfect skin’s texture. Plus, it works over time to absorb excess oil and control shine.

So it smooths out those pesky lines I sometimes focus too much on (yes, I’m sure they ONLY bother ME.)  AND it helps over time to tame shine…which also sometimes aggravates me.  I rather appreciate that there’s a lil’ easy-to-use stick out there that might assist me in achieving those things since – let’s be honest – I DON’T always wake up flawless.

In my opinion it is totally okay to recruit a little help because it will make me feel a bit better on the days something to perk me up.  And trust me, my confidence hasn’t taken a dive, nor my spirt been wounded, by the name…or the offering.

Backstage – Dior Colour Filters

Dior has a ton of products masquerading in this package, one of which is my favorite balm in the world.  And generally, these snappy, back-knobbed sticks show up during the runway shows, sneaking their way into the backstage photos while models get prepped to show off the new collection (clothing and cosmetics alike!)

These two new “Fix It” products, available August 1st, come in four shades, all designed to mask imperfections and unwanted tones:

  • Apricot (great for dark circles)
  • Yellow (can tone down ruddiness, as well as help with circles)
  • Blue (good for sallowness or overly-orange that needs to be evened, as well as adding radiance)
  • Green (tones down redness)

The color portion of this 2-in-1 tool wraps around a “soft focus” core that supposedly helps to diffuse lines and creases (tons of blurring products out there, so no surprise.)  The great news is that for BritishBeautyBlogger, this actually didn’t settle into lines, so it delivered what it claims it will.  She also felt it was nicely pigmented (which you can see in her swatches – I was impressed with the color payoff also given the ratio of core to color.)

These are meant to be used as a primer for the eyes, lips, and the face, so feel free to play around!

BareMinerals Light Dimensional Translucent Duo

So this cutie little pair – BareMinerals Light Dimensional Translucent Powder Duo –  reminds me a lot of Hourglass and Elf’s Ambient Powders.  What I love about this one, though, is that one half is intended to remove the not-so-great-glow, while the other is designed to promote an ethereal one.  Double trouble – I like it.

The baked, “luxurious” powders are made to vanish on all skin tones, while at the same time blurring imperfections and adding luminosity.  As an athlete, having two products in one is super helpful, but also I love that these are designed to be imperceptible – they create a healthy, happy complexion withOUT being overbearing – win!

The “Matte” side helps to absorb oil (which often leaves a less than desirable greasy sheen), while “Glow” provides a rose-gold-infused highlight for any area you want to add a bit-o-strobe.

The brush is uniquely dual sided, allowing for the best application while removing oil, and adding your gleam – pretty snazzy, if you ask me! 🙂

This “set” includes:

  • 0.31-oz Invisible Light Transulcent Powder Duo
  • Dual Finish Blush & Contour Brush

It is currently on sale for $36.36 (not sure how long that goes!)

Urban Decay Naked Skin Color Correcting Fluid

Correctors are one of THE most amazing products in the world of color cosmetics.  For moons, it was incredibly hard to track this kind of thing down – as a Ballroom dancer, spray tans were a prerequisite and matching one’s skin tone with any manner of product was a (*cough* pain in the rump!) challenge.

Performance aside, being able to easily conceal things like excessive redness, sallowness, undereye circles from that late night college paper was SO much easier with the proper product...  But having to go to Halloween stores or places like Ricky’s NYC for stage makeup wasn’t always easy to do!  The products were out there, but often relegated to specific industries such as film and theater.

These days, color correcting palettes and concealers are a CINCH to find.  What I love is that companies are adding color correctors to their already existing, successful concealer lineups, as well as offering palettes, the latter of which is a DREAM to own when you are competing (all the colors right there in one, handy case! 🙂 )

Urban Decay is now offering five shades – the five most popular – for covering the most common perfect-complexion-hinderers, with their Naked Skin Color Correcting Fluid:

  1. Green – reduces redness.
  2. Lavender – balances sallowness (think, too yellow. Very popular in Asian markets.)
  3. Pink – brightens dark areas.
  4. Yellow – corrects dullness (also helps with redness and darkness.)
  5. Peach – masks circles/spots.

The product “features an innovative, lightweight formula that instantly color-corrects and blurs flaws, leaving skin illuminated and bright. Subtle pearlescent pigments diffuse light to perfect skin, while antioxidant-rich vitamins C and E condition and protect.” It is formulated without Paragons, Sulfates, or Phthalates, and is incredibly easy to use and blend.

YSL also has a few versions of its cult Touch éclat out in corrective hues, which you may have seen already…  And they aren’t alone – there are rather a slew of correctors emerging, both at the mass market and high-end levels, some of which I will speak to soon!

Maybelline Baby Skin Blur

There have been a few variants of this product, I feel like, though only one that I recall in the USA., Instant Pore Eraser.

Instant Fatigue Blur, a water-based, hydrating primer, has launched overseas (can be found at Boots online, for one!)   I swore that I posted about Maybelline Baby Skin Pink Transformer a good while ago, which feels similar, but I can’t seem to find the post!

This item comes in Apricot and Rose, which offer some minor color correction – I’m guessing, though, that these are sheer, so if you need coverage, this may just be a primer step to blur pores, with something applied over it.

New Physicians Formula

Physicians Formula’s new products always seem to roll out to stores like Harmon…which I no longer have nearby (rats!)  But I have seen a ton of photos of new items, many of which are indeed on their site (making snooping…and purchasing!…much easier! 😉 )

It’s no surprise that more and more cushion foundation compacts are emerging in the mass market scene – happy about that, frankly, as they tend to be wildly more affordable than premiere brands.  Depending on the amount of product (some cushions rack up complaints for being too pricey for the quantity they get), lower cost is a great thing! The L’Oreal Lumi has also been spotted, which is exciting. What I always look for is non-comedogenic, though (just say no to breakouts.)…and then I double-check the ingredients (which sometimes do have offenders within them!)  Limited shades on this cushion, by the way – Light and Light/Medium.  I would like to see more, as that clearly doesn’t offer a whole bunch of ladies any options!

I of course always love “blurring” tools – sometimes you wake up and “rested” is nowhere to be seen – Thank you, multi-tasking concealers!

I also notice a number of products following suit of companies like Too Faced with Instagram-inspired “filter” powders and products – you know, to give you the look of a filter but BEFORE you take the photo?  Meant to be untraceable, creating a soft-focus, I-have-perfect-skin-without-products look.

A few other items listed I wrote about here.

Have you seen any of these in stores?  Looking forward to checking them out and hearing reviews.

Soap & Glory Sexy ‘n’ Kick A$$!

Soap & Glory definitely gets credit for the fun names…!

Sexy Mother Blusher is a new cream blush chubby stick that comes in three delightful shades:

  • Berry Jamm
  • Onomatopeacha
  • Pinkerbelle

The formula is designed to be long-lasting, with an easy-to-blend vibrant color and cream finish.  It’s format, if you will, is incredibly easy to use – love chubby sticks for on the go!

Then there’s Kick Ass Blur & Brighten.  They do have a “thing” for the ampersand, don’t they?  Anyway, I digress…

This lil’ concealer crayon is “no-nonsense,” combining long wear with the ease of a fat pencil.  So it’s the perfect tag along to the blush stick if you are constantly running about, or managing kids, work, fitness, LIFE…!
