New Physicians Formula

Sharing because I’ve not seen these posted, but did see them in-store.  What’s interesting is their whole “InstaReady” and “filter” angle – certainly not new (from them or other cosmetic companies) but largely speaking to modern culture’s obsession with social media (this could take a positive spin…or a negative one – that’s up to the individual!)

What it means for companies is that though cosmetics have always been designed to help us achieve and us-but-better look – why bother, otherwise? – the approach has shifted to facilitate looking even better (airbrushed, anyone?!) in photos and video.  In addition, the focus is also on getting ready as quickly as possible – how do I add a filter asap without the camera, kind of thing…

Spring 2017 – Neutrogena Hydra Boost Color

The onset of winter often means a change in skincare for a lot of people – drier skin makes for a much more difficult canvas, especially on days you may (feel) you need coverage.

While Neutrogena’s Hydra Boost Makeup Collection is technically for Spring 2017, it’s a perfect time to launch because the colder months very likely require more nourishing formulas.

There are a few products in the lineup (serum, lip shine, cleanser, makeup, concealer, lip treatment) so if you tend towards dry skin to begin with, or you know colder air will require a tweak to your routine…they might be worth checking out.

Urban Decay Prime Time For Holiday

Newness from Urban Decay *possibly* in time for the Holiday (supposedly available from Belk.com, but I don’t see any of these listed as yet.)  Otherwise, they are launching on urbandecay.com January 1st.

It isn’t just one product, though, or one kind of product.  UD is releasing five new primers. Yes, five. (Once again, my inner ballroom-dance-competitor-self is wondering why they’ve arrived so long after I stopped competing!)

The five, which will retail for $34 each, include:

1. Optical Illusion – Designed to blur flaws, reduce fine lines, minimize pores, smooth skin
2. Bright & Tight – Aims to provide brighter, firmer skin
3. De-Slick – As with their other De-Slicks, designed to absorb and minimize shine, and to make your makeup last loner
4. Self-Adjusting– A color-correcting formulation with encapsulated pigments that adjust to your personal skin tone
5. Urban Defense – A translucent, SPF 30 sunscreen base

They do already have quite a lineup of setting sprays, as well as eyeshadow primer – all which seem to manage rave reviews – but I think these will do rather well as a natural expansion for them.  Thoughts?

Tarte Limited Edition Vegan Pearly Girl

Wait…what?  I’d never have expected a teeth whitener from cosmetic company Tarte, let alone (necessarily) a vegan one.  But I guess it’s, er, an extension of lip gloss…?  A smile IS the best accessory. . .

Whatever the reason, they are offering a limited edition “Pearly Girl” pen whitener  for those of you who might be interested.  The ingredients are particularly novel, though of course they have subtracted some of those lesser desirable ones:

Ingredients: Water/Aqua/Eau, glycerin, PEG-400, hydrogen peroxide, sodium hydroxide, disodium EDTA, potassium nitrate, mentha pulegium, sodium saccharin.

formulated without parabens, formulated without mineral oil, formulated without  phthalates, formulated without sodium lauryl sulfates, formulated without gluten

Still, I feel like if I wanted a whitener myself, I’d hit up Crest or Colgate.  Not for nothing, but they’ve been in that game a lot longer – even if the ingredients are the same (or close), Tarte doesn’t strike me (personally) as my go to for pearly whites.

That said, if it works, and it’s convenient to snag at the time…more power to you.

Hollywood Ladies Baring All For Pirelli

Word of a new Pirelli project came my way recently, and I love that for it, these “elite” ladies are being photographed au natural.  Yes, part of me knows that they probably had facials, and undoubtedly have their own selection of skincare and preventative aging measures (in general, but also in preparation!) BUT. . . I still appreciate that they are being photographed withOUT the layers of makeup they usually are seen wearing.  Refreshing.

Why would I bother mentioning it, especially given that I don’t follow celebrity media?  Because a lot of ladies look up to the “stars.”  Young ones, in particular… The faces in the spotlight matter – right or wrong (whatever your opinion) – to many.  So it’s great to see them taking it all off to encourage people to love the skin they are in – no one should have to hide, and it is OKAY to be bare-faced.

Per photographer Peter Lindbergh and New Beauty:

“I wanted to use the 2017 calendar to convey a different kind of beauty,” said Lindbergh at a press launch in Paris. “Since it’s based on consumption, the present system offers a single kind of beauty, which is essentially one of youth and perfection, since its objective is to get people to consume. But this idea of beauty has nothing to do with the real world or with women. Through the Pirelli Calendar I’ve tried to convey a different message, which is that beauty is far more than what advertising offers us today. My aim was therefore to portray women in a different way: and I did this by calling in actresses who’ve played an important role in my life, getting as close as possible to them to take my photos.”

While I wish this kind of encouragement was more prevalent, I am thankful for any of it at all – it’s important, in a world of false pretense and facades (grazie, social media!) that people realize a pretty face often has a lot more going on to make it APPEAR that way.  Let’s remember that we are human beings – we have dynamic wrinkles because we are alive and laughing!  Our skin sometimes has little spots because we see the sun from time to time.  We aren’t plastic, and flawless…and there’s nothing wrong with that.  We don’t have to live up to “perfect” (someone else’s term and standard, probably!) all the time…or even, how about this…? EVER.

Thank you, Pirelli, for the calendar…and for supporting “us” as we are.

Holiday 2016 – Lime Crime Diamond Crushers

Wait…WHaAaaAT!?  Where were THESE when I was competitively Ballroom Dancing, dang it?!

These are the PERFECT, iridescent light catchers (and I’m highly irritated that they’ve come out now…several years too late!)  The names are as sassy as the shades, and I love that they (along with many other companies) are following suit of such brands as Colour Pop and showing swatches on a variety of skin tones.  *LOVE*

FLUKE. . .

I can’t well wear them to the dojo (lest my partner’s gi light up like a Christmas ball) but…I hope other people indulge in the high-wattage glow!

The Diamond Crushers are meant to layer over lip color, but I’m sure you could use them on your own.  You could also very likely get creative (because…why not?) and use them to reflect light to / from other areas.  Eye gloss, anyone?
