Life Is Too Short

I believe it matters where we put our focus and energy…

I work on this daily too, but it’s a nice reminder. The only thing we can control is ourselves, which basically means that the only true changes we can make (or impact) are those that apply specifically to us. Those changes can involve our attitudes, behaviors, reactions, responses, beliefs etc. Though we are powerless to alter all beyond that scope, we do have a choice about what we do with / how we react. There is a great deal of emancipation in that idea, and it reminds us that life is too short to get bogged down with negativity. NONE of us have that much time that it’s worth wasting happiness.

That doesn’t mean you don’t have a right to feel, have a bad day, or need some time to work though inner emotions. The point is that life is fleeting and we do have choices. (Read: The Best Revenge, You’ve Come A Long Way, Happiness And Peace Are Up To You, and Look On The Bright Side.)

I work on these choices regularly because happiness and success are my right and wholly up to me. There are some things I, too, need to let go of. Frankly I’m ready to – it’s nice to cut the chains (which we needn’t be beholden to most of the time.)

Are there things you are holding onto that you want to let go of? Habits, conditioning, behaviors, beliefs?

If it’s a grudge, this meme might give you a laugh…

It may also – having used humor to diffuse – allow you to move past any you might be harboring. No one deserves to subtract your time, energy, or happiness if they aren’t contributing positively. Give a smile, a nod, a thumbs up…and just move along. Remember that we live with ourselves, they live with themselves…  No one has to be best of friends if they aren’t suited, but we also don’t have to carry the weight of negativity around. Unload the bricks and imagine the person against whom you have a grudge as in the snapshot above – a fleeting moment in time that will meet an end, and you took the higher road while it lasted.

Long Live (Mc)Queen

I miss Alexander McQueen – I was so distressed when I learned of his passing some years ago.  McQueen was one of fashion the envelope pushers…who got away with it.  He took shapes and ideas to the next level, stirring the creative possibilities unabashedly.

His models wore headdresses of birds in flight – so real looking that you’d half expect to have one on your shoulder at any moment, vying for a snack…or lock of hair.

Towering, extraterrestrial heels (a word I used prior to seeing this post, but who wouldn’t go there?! I did back then too) – not only bizarre, but downright menacing – strut alongside re-vivified chopine, rounded, snake-snouted booties (a favorite of Ms. Gaga), and biker badassery.

No, he never was for the faint of heart, but I liked that.  He still managed relevancy, amidst the spectacle too, albeit “wearable” for the bold more so than the masses.

A friend recently showed me a clutch covered in skulls and rhinestones…and it reminded me of McQueen right away.  (And anyway – it’s almost Halloween – a perfect time for fearless revelry…and accessories!)

I recalled the bejeweled, bedecked (skull-decked, I should say) knuckle ring clutches he made back when. They are still – not surprisingly – going strong among the quirky, and affluent.

They are essentially wearable art – you couldn’t possibly go unnoticed bearing one of these in your hand.  But then you wouldn’t buy it if you didn’t favor an adventurous path, undaunted by the merrily mundane (casting curious looks ‘ere you go!)

The “Otherworldly” Glow Getter

Highlighters have absolutely proliferated the market…I’ve gone on about it plenty, and so have most beauty blogs.  And fashion sites. And publications. It’s a trend that hasn’t gone away, and probably will always find a place no matter the changing tides (yes, even when matte is the end all be all!)

Ethereal is ALWAYS in, but galactic is a whole other thing… It is definitely less wearable, but somehow still as appealing to most eyes (and wallets!) simply because of its novelty and “otherworldliness.”  I mean, who doesn’t want some kind of gleam somewhere?  It’s chic to sport an angelic sheen!  In the case of Milk Makeup’s Holographic Stick, though, it IS more extraterrestrial.

I’ve seen a bunch of posts out there but BeautyByKelsey shared one of the best swatches of this stick, as well as Anastasia’s Moonchild palette, Kat Von D’s Eyeshadow, Pat McGrath’s 003 highlighter (which was a quickly snatched-up cult item when it came out some months ago.)  It was nice to see it here, as other posts didn’t quite get the “on-skin, actual” look across.  Not to mention, if you really want to go full-bore, you have a nice collection of space-age products and hues to choose from!

There’s a definite lilac sheen going on here – it does NOT (hallelujah!) appear to be glittery or shimmery at all. Fear not, for those of you for whom glitter is your thing – this will still command some attention when on your skin (at least from someone else’s rods and cones!)

Not for the faint of heart, but those who want to stand apart. And glow while they’re at it.
