Starry Starry Night, Mattefied

Starry Starry Night is one of Essie’s limited edition Retro Revival 2016 shades, coming back 35 years after Essie Weingarten first laughed her nail polishes.  Starry Starry Night is one of six other shades, including:

  1. Life Of The Party – 2002 Pearlescent burgundy
  2. Sequin Sash – 2005 Sheer bronze
  3. Cabana Boy – 2005 Silvery white
  4. Bikini With a Martini – 2006 Frosty pink
  5. Birthday Suit – 1981 Soft nude

Given it’s incredible opacity and multi-faceted glimmer, the 1985 release became a best seller all way through 1998 when it was discontinued.  Turns out that must have been a smart marketing move, since one bottle was sold on eBay for $250 a year ago in 2014!  (That’s a  nice $240 jump from its original price tag, ps.)

Traditionally it is a flash of cosmic gloss!

Ciel Du Nuit, Chanel’s 1998 shade, was my persona favorite…and, noting the discontinuation of the above, it turns out it launched at a fortuitous time!
